I am a recent Ph.D. graduate from Vanderbilt in Economics, with four years of experience as a TA in courses from intermediate to graduate. I was also selected to be one of just five graduate student instructors over the summer of 2018, designing and teaching an intro to economics course. I also have extensive experience in writing and checking exam questions at the high school and college level. Aside from my experience, I also have formal training. I completed a semester of tutor training at Temple University's Math and Science Resource Center, and I completed a Certificate in College Teaching at Vanderbilt.

Thanks to my Ph.D. courses, I have a richer understanding of economics topics than you can get at the bachelor's or master's level. This means I can answer the questions of "why?" as well as the questions of "how?" in a way that other tutors can't. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring, whether it's a traditional college student trying to adapt to Micro 101, or a working professional trying to finish their MBA after work each day. I like knowing that I can really help people to achieve their goals, and that along the way, I can equip them with powerful economic tools.

I hope I can help you to learn whatever it is you want to know! Contact me if you want to work with an experienced, professional tutor who will work with you from any level of understanding.

Econometrics,

Econometrics

I have taken Econometrics I and II in my PhD program, and received A's in both. I feel comfortable in explaining the concepts covered there in a way accessible to undergraduates, without excessive use of Linear Algebra or reliance on abstract math.
Macroeconomics,

Macroeconomics

In addition to completing a BA in Economics at Temple University with a 4.0, I have taken 3 more terms of Macroeconomics at the Ph.D. level from Vanderbilt, and I have been the TA for intermediate macroeconomics, open economy macroeconomics, and Macroeconomics for Public Policy Analysis. I also created and taught a course in Principles of Macroeconomics at Vanderbilt last summer.

Microeconomics

I graduated from Temple University with a 4.0 in Economics, and have since taken 6 more semesters of Ph.D. level microeconomics. I have been the teaching assistant for Ph.D. Micro I for 2 years now, and I have also been hired by the department to tutor Ph.D. game theory. I've also had the unique experience of creating and revising questions for Professor Stephen Buckle's principles of economics book.

Knowledgeable Statistics Tutor with great teaching skills- HIGHLY recommend!

I have met with Mat for the full first semester of my MBA program, as he has supported my learning development in Statistics, Economics, and Marketing. I entered into my MBA program without much of a quantitative background, so when it came time for my required Statistics class I was nervous. Mat has an uncanny ability to take complex, number-heavy concepts and turn them into digestible bite-sized pieces of information. Not only did he take the time to get to know my learning style (I'm detail-oriented and like lists!) but he specifically taught to my learning style by breaking down key concepts (hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, etc) into clear step by step instructions and study guide materials. I was blown away by how quickly Mat was able to catch me up to speed with the rest of my Statistics class-- after meeting with Mat for tutoring, not only did I land an 87 on my Midterm (above average) but I received a high pass as my final grade, as well, because of my mastery of the material after our sessions. Now, Mat is supporting me with tutoring for Economics-- and yet again, is helping to translate difficult concepts into real, concrete, examples that bring ideas like "adverse selection" to life". Since working with Mat in economics, I have maintained a B+/A average throughout the semester. I've also appreciated Mat's flexibility in setting meetings that work with my quickly changing schedule. I would highly recommend Mat to anyone looking for a statistics tutor either online or in person-- beyond having an extremely firm (PhD level) mastery of the material, Mat is patient and uniquely able to adapt material to meet student learning needs. Set up a meeting- you won't regret it!

Great tutor!

Mathew is very knowledgeable on the topic of macroeconomics at the college level. He explained the topics clearly so they were easy to understand. Instead of dreading my test, I’m looking forward to it.

Leah, 3 lessons with Mathew

Explained the material thoroughly and clearly.

Mathew did a great job explaining my Intermediate Macroeconomics material. I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania and he was able to explain the questions in ways that were superior to my TAs at school. I highly recommend his tutoring services.

Professional and Reliable

Matthew may charge on the higher end of the price range, but once you get tutored by him you realize that it's well deserved. I found this website to cram for a final, and the first hour I had was with someone cheap who taught me absolutely nothing, slowly, and without expertise. I ended up feeling hopeless after it. My second hour was with Matthew and he gave me exactly what I needed, a college level education taken seriously for the time paid. I suggest you simply get the job done with Matthew than take it anywhere else, his knowledge of Macroeconomics is no joke.
