I am a physicist who loves to get excited about science! I feel that it is important to find out how a student organizes information in their mind and which learning style works best for them. I personally use a combination of visual, hands on, and auditory learning to fully utilize the human brain's capacity for associative memory. I have also developed a note taking system, which enables students to easily study from their notes in such a way to foster photographic memory recall when exam time comes around and for easy reference both during homework sessions and for years to come.
Math is like a language. The language of our understanding of the universe. Having knowledge and appreciation for this language allows you to see into the pattern of nature; the pattern that intertwines with all of the human experience. I think it is important to relate a student's everyday experiences to the math they are learning; in a way that has them thinking about formulas and techniques throughout the day. Making study sessions more effective and increasing problem solving speed (even for other subjects).
I completed my coursework for a physics degree from highly ranked Stony Brook University, earning a high GPA and a membership to Sigma Pi Sigma, a national physics honors society. I also made lecture slides for a medical physics course, and I know multiple techniques to help students understand and retain physics information. I have also developed a note taking system which makes studying for exams very easy. I will work with students to not only understand the material better and to solve problems faster and easier, but I also will focus on methods of effectively organizing information.
Doing well in these classes comes down to practice, good information organization, and a solid understanding of concepts based on what makes each student tick. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Earned an A in this subject at a highly ranked Stony Brook University for the physics program. Linear algebra is used extensively in problem solving and system definitions throughout physics. I can teach students how to think about linear algebra and perform calculations based on examples, pneumonic devices, and step logic.
