About Calvin

I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles and I am applying to medical school this upcoming year.

I have had experience working at a tutoring school and teaching advanced math and science subjects, including Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, to students from the Kindergarten level to the 12th grade. During college, I worked as a part-time tutor, tutoring students in a college-level Mathematics course offered at UCLA. As an Undergraduate Assistant at UCLA, I helped the professor teach a college-level Life Sciences Laboratory course and a Biology course. Finally, I had the opportunity to develop my own lesson plan and teach Evolution to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at an Elementary School.

During high school, I have also competed in math competitions throughout California and received the following awards:

2012 Preliminaries: Team Math Calculus, 2nd
2011 Regionals: Solo Math Calculus, 1st
2011 Preliminaries: Solo Math Calculus, 2nd
2010 Regionals: Solo Math Trigonometry, 1st
2010 Preliminaries: Solo Math Trigonometry, 1st
2009 Regionals: Solo Math Algebra II, 3rd
2009 Preliminaries: Solo Math Algebra II, 1st

I can also help with test preparation (ACT Math & Science, SAT Math & Writing). Here are my scores when I took the tests back in high school:
ACT Math: 36 (perfect score)
ACT Science: 33
SAT Math: 770
SAT Writing: 700

Helping others learn something new is extremely rewarding and reaffirms my decision to pursue medicine for I have developed a passion to help others grow to their potential. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you would like to discuss my skills and potential to work as a tutor or if there is any other information that you may need. I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
