(1) University of Southern California (BA Theatre)
Hi there! I received my B.A. in Theatre from the University of Southern California. I specialize in Reading, Writing, English, and Essay Editing. I've edited, proof-read, and helped strengthen numerous students' essays and writing.
I've also helped students with homework, test preparation, organization, and study skills. I have the ability to explain things in more than one way for the most comprehensive understanding - everyone learns differently and it's important to me to effectively communicate the material for each individual student, which sometimes means communicating it in different ways.
English was always my favorite subject in school. I love editing essays and teaching students how to make their essays stronger, and I try to encourage a love for reading and writing in all my students. I find the intricate rules of grammar intriguing, and hope to bring excitement and curiosity to even the most mundane writing tasks!
After graduating from USC, I lived in the south of France for a year to continue my education at a university there, and to explore new areas of interest. I learned French through immersion, conversation, and classes, and love to tutor beginning levels of French.
My theatre training has taught me how to communicate with many different kinds of people in an engaging and interesting manner. If the goal isn't being achieved, I'm able to ask questions to determine where the gap in understanding lies, and to explain the material in a new way, with specific directions and notes to guide the student achieve understanding and her goals with the material.
I'm a self-starter and have the ability to create my own curriculum based on what areas a student needs further practice in. Additionally, I'm able to create goals for new students and break those goals into practical and manageable tasks.
I look forward to meeting you! Hi there! I received my B.A. in Theatre from the University of Southern California. I specialize in Reading, Writing, English, and Essay Editing. I've edited, proof-read, and helped strengthen numerous students' essays and writing.

Our daughter has always struggled to keep up with her school work, so besides addressing her learning deficits we wanted to support her in building her confidence. Courtney was exactly what we were looking for in a tutor: direct, engaging, patient, and responsive to our girl's needs. We especially appreciate that Courtney does not go too easy on our girl and challenges her to do her best work each time. We're so glad we found her!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
