Hi there! My name is Nicole and I am a current elementary school teacher in Los Angeles. I have been a teacher for 4 years, all in the 5th grade. I have lived in Los Angeles for the last 5 years and I love it! I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
I love teaching and I love igniting students' curiosity about the world. I believe that education is the strongest tool you can own: your knowledge and your brain is so powerful!
Math is one of my favorite subjects! Success in math and confidence in math skills will improve problem solving skills. I've had 4 years of experience with teaching the Common Core math standards using the curriculum EngageNY and MyMath.
Writing is my second favorite subject. Writing improves with a love for reading and a curiosity of the world around us. I've had experience in different writing curriculums such as Growing Educators and Lucy Calkins' Units of Study.
I have studied the Common Core State Standards in graduate school, and have continued to teach in accordance to it for the past 4 years. Although it is a huge shift from the CA state standards, it boots high and critical thinking - skills needed to succeed in higher education, and in the world.
I hold a valid teaching credential, and am currently in my fourth year as a teacher in Los Angeles.
I love learning, and I love to inspire the love for learning in my students! Using technology, and different modes of learning, I allow all students to access the curriculum and standards. My teaching philosophy lines closely with the growth mindset theory: YOU CAN LEARN ANYTHING, you just don't know it YET. Through hard work, grit, and persistence, success is possible! Hi there! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied the Common Core State Standards in graduate school at the University of Southern California, and have since been teaching in accordance to it. I have taught the 5th grade for the past 4 years. I teach in alignment to both the ELA and Math standards.
