BA from University of Montevallo (English)
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Master's)
I have an MA in literature and film studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and taught college courses in literature and composition. I began teaching GRE classes for a test-prep company, and after receiving top ratings from my students they asked me to take the GMAT and LSAT so that I could reach a wider audience. I have scored in the 95th percentile of the GRE and GMAT and the 99th percentile of the LSAT, and I have done so because these tests are not about intelligence, they are all about understanding the underlying mechanics of the test and recognizing that questions fall into predictable patterns.
I began teaching test-prep classes six years ago when I was teaching English at the University of Montevallo. I found that most of my students were brilliant, hard-working young people who would absolutely be amazing in whatever field they chose, and yet there were blocked by standardized tests that had NOTHING to do with being a successful professional. Getting students over that stumbling block and into law schools, business schools, and grad schools--and seeing them become lawyers, executives and academics, is what drives me.
I have eight years of experience teaching in higher education and six years experience teaching classes and offering individual tutoring for the three major graduate entrance exams: the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT.
I live in Highland park and offer tutoring on the east side of Los Angeles and the greater Pasadena area. I am available seven days a week, and am happy to meet you on campus, at your home, or in a public setting like a library or coffee shop. I have worked with many students from Occidental College, Pasadena City College, USC, and Pomona College.
If you have a friend studying for the same test, let's work together and you can both save! I also offer free lessons for students who provide referrals, so contact me on Wyzant today and take your first step towards the graduate degree you have been dreaming of! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have instructed over 100 students on the GMAT while working for the largest test prep company in the US. Student surveys at this company rated me among the top ten tutors in California.
