About Lauren

While I currently teach virtually with Harvard's Graduate Extension School, my passion for one on one tutoring. I have been tutoring in the Humanities for four years with a variety of students, mostly high school level with the occasional college student.

Originally beginning with Archaeology and Philosophy, I quickly expanded my subjects to include the other Humanities given my rigorous university background. That being said, I specialize in essays, vocabulary, and literature. I've worked with many high school seniors on their college application essays as well as end of term exam prep for timed writing.

My goal is provide a supportive environment for my students that fosters confidence while simultaneously encouraging them to tackle difficult questions and respond efficiently. Each student is different and requires his/her/their own concoction of assistance; I aim to offer a flexible and dynamic session which addresses the strengths and concerns of my student. My sessions also build over time to get you through the immediate struggles and lay the foundation for future success.

I graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Archaeology; additionally, I been involved with archaeological digs and practices since high school. While completing my degree, I have taught the subject to students (1st grade through college level) for three years.

Through trial by fire of a B.A. in Philosophy and graduate school, my mastery of the essay has been proven. From grammar to capturing the essence of a prompt, I'm your tutor. Additionally, I have previously tutored high school students (particularly with college application essays).

My B.A. in Archaeology is specialized within Classics; and the majority of my teaching in archaeology stems from this. Classics has been a lifelong passion since my own high school days.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Archaeology

I currently hold a BA in Archaeology from USC; in addition, I have grown up in a household frequented by archaeologists from National Geographic. I participated in my first dig when I was 13 and taught through USC's ARCSMART program for three years.
