My upbeat and patient personality, diverse background of knowledge, and creative approach to studying will enhance your experience during our tutor sessions. I love to bring in outside knowledge, tie different concepts together, and help encourage my students that some extra practice can go a long way. I will tailor each session to your personality and work hard to find what study type is right for you. We each have different personalities and therefore we cannot use a universal tutoring method for all students. I will prioritize working on your weaknesses but also plan on challenging your skills overall.

I received my Bachelors degree in general biology from Loyola Marymount University in 2014, and continued on to pursue a graduate degree immediately after. My passion for healthcare, community service, and medicine led me to the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health. From Pitt, I received my Master's of Public Health (MPH) degree in December of 2015. I majored in Infectious Diseases & Microbiology, with a concentration in Pathogenesis, Eradication, and Laboratory Practice. Alongside my MPH degree, I completed my Teaching Certificate at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education. My longterm goal is to become a physician and to use my education towards practicing medicine and conducting clinical research.

My passion for tutoring began when I was just a high school student many years ago. I attended a K-12 private school and decided it was time for high school students to offer their skills to our youth. I started a student club that specifically focused on reading and spelling in two languages. Throughout college, I tutored many underprivileged high school students as part of my service requirement. I also tutored a transitional kindergarten science class for a local elementary school, and worked in small groups to allow the children to start first grade without any holdbacks the following year. Biostatistics

Biostatistics

Biostatistics was built into a full year of my MPH program, as my concentration focused on the analysis of laboratory practices. I have numerous hours of biostatistics tutoring experience, and have had the pleasure of working with graduate students taking biostatistics at George Washington University, Drexel University, Simmons University, Arizona State University, and more. I am comfortable working with statistical analyses as simple as probability, to more complex analyses such as linear and logistic regressions.

Epidemiology

I received my Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health in December 2015. I majored in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (IDM) with an emphasis on Pathogenesis, Eradication, and Laboratory Practice. Epidemiology was the foundation of my major, IDM. Therefore I was required to take multiple epidemiology courses, like Introduction to Epidemiology and Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases throughout graduate school. I also took an Introduction to Epidemiology course as an undergraduate student at Loyola Marymount University prior to graduate school.

Amazingly Helpful

Anita focuses on the important information and doesn’t bog you down with the unnecessary/advanced details that may confuse some students. She is very kind and patient with me.

Very helpful

I have only had one session with Anita but she is an amazing tutor she makes time for me even though she lives on the other side of the country. She is great at going over things to really make sure you know exactly what equations mean and why it is important. I greatly appreciate her and can already feel my understanding increasing.

Patient and Informative Tutor

Anita went through the basic calculations of Epidemiology with me (incidence, prevalence, attributable risk). She not only made it easier for me to understand, but she guided me in a way that made me feel smart and capable. She is encouraging and wants you to pass as much as you do! I definitely would recommend Anita, 100%!

Professional and Excellent Biostats and Epid Tutor

Are you looking to ace your Biostatistics or Epidemiology graduate-level class and understand the concepts and math behind them? Look no further than Anita S ! I hired Anita for help with Biostatistics and Epidemiology courses that ran ten weeks each. After one Biostats lesson with Anita, I canceled all my other tutors. I worked solely with her for ten weeks (meeting for 2-3 sessions a week). After doing well in that class, I hired her again for another ten consecutive weeks to help me through Epidemiology. I suffer from tremendous test anxiety and always have hired tutors to help with specific undergrad and graduate school classes, even when I know the content well. It is a way for me to reduce that anxiety and succeed. Therefore, I know the difference between a fantastic, good enough, and a sub-par tutor. Anita falls in the fantastic category! She is not just a tutor but a true teacher with a rare gift of truly understanding how to teach these sometimes complicated concepts to different levels of students. Also, as many other reviewers pointed out, she is patient and understanding, which makes the lessons enjoyable. In every lesson, she provided additional practice problems and tactics to help reduce my anxiety by being a smarter test taker. Most tutors will not take this level of care and personalization and have the intelligence to help you get through your classes. Oh, and by the way, I ended up with a 4.0 in my Biostats and Epidemiology classes. So do yourself a favor and hire Anita - you will not regret it!

Best tutor ever!

Anita does an amazing job of breaking down the most difficult concepts. I thought all hope was lost for my Epi class until I started tutoring with her. I’m more confident turning in homework and doing tests now. I always look fowardntomourbaessions because I know I will retain the information and be able to apply it when needed. I am so grateful that I chose her as my tutor. Without her I don’t think I would have been successful in my Epi class. Thanks Anita!

Excellent tutor

Anita was an excellent tutor for my biostatistics class. She broke everything down into manageable steps and offered resources that helped me understand the concepts and prepare for my quizzes. She is patient, thoughtful, and very personable.

The BEST tutor ever!

Anita has been my tutor for both Epidemiology and Biostatistics and I can confidently say that my success in these two classes are down to her! Anita is very knowledgeable, patient, friendly and explains difficult concepts in a way that is easy to digest, understand and remember. She not only allowed me to understand and master the material for the course to secure A's in both classes, I also really liked how she would always explain why we are conducting this work and how it's applicable on a broader scale/in the real world. I can't recommend Anita enough, not only will you master the material, but you'll enjoy every bit of it! Thank you so much Anita! :)
