In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I just received my master's degree from the Cinema & Media Studies program at the University of Southern California. The program of study covers is interdisciplinary. At its core it covers film theory and film history, and extends into digital humanities, gender studies, critical race theory, arts criticism, and contemporary art. I also served as a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses in the program.
I obtained my bachelor's of science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. After that, I worked for 4 years as a legislative assistant to a U.S. Representative. I also received received a superior grade on my AP Civics/Government test in high school.
As part of my master's degree, I completed coursework in film production. One course on narrative film production and another course on documentary film production. As part of these courses I was required to write, direct, produce, shoot, and edit my films. I also learned basic and intermediate sound recording and editing and do freelance sound recording for productions.
