About Alex

I'm a tutor who loves to teach critical thinking skills. It's not so much about teaching the material, but teaching the student to think for themselves and to feel the reward for understanding something deeply. These are the secrets to my success as a student, and I try to pass them on wherever I can. The greatest satisfaction I get is always seeing my students succeed.

A little background: I started tutoring in 2009 as a high school student. I attended USC on scholarship and immediately joined a program tutoring elementary schools students. I gained a lot of tutoring experience and learned from my peers, and so when I graduated, I kept tutoring as a side gig! I'm still doing it, I'm expert in all levels of Math and Standardized tests. in middle school and high school, where it's so critical for their development. forward to working with you! I look to tutor middle school and high school students, who are at a critical time of development, and need as much academic help as they need mentoring and a role model. So I try to be both!

Would love to work with you, feel free to reach out with any questions or inquiries!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I've helped more than 10 students prepare for the ACT, I know how to teach the test taking strategies and time management skills your son or daughter needs!

ACT Math

I've scored a 36 on the ACT, and I've helped more than 10 students reach their ACT goals. Would love to hear from you!

ACT Science

I've scored a 36 on the ACT, and I've helped several students set their ACT goals and reach them!

Algebra 1

I've tutored algebra 1 to six students in the past year. I'm working with many of them on geometry to this day! I'm super fresh on the material and practiced in teaching it. Hire me for your Algebra 1 needs!

Algebra 2

I've taught the subject professionally: last school year, I taught a student the course using online software. It was just me and him (he got a 95% in the course). This year, I am helping a student through precalculus and another in trigonometry (both of which have material that you see in Algebra 2). Would love to help your son or daughter in Algebra 2.

Elementary Math

I tutored at USC for the Joint Educational Project. For four years, I would walk off campus to a local elementary school and tutor boys and girls, one-on-one in reading and math. I got to help so many students and I learned a lot. As a result, I'm very familiar with common core standards, as well as a young student's mindset.

English

USC English degree - 3.89 GPA. Practiced in essay writing, editing, and grammar rules. Can help any high school student with their English homework needs.

Geometry

I'm in the middle of helping 3 students in Geometry. I'm happy to say that all three have A's in their class. I'm taking on all geometry students!

Precalculus

I've done a lot of math tutoring in the past year. Everything from Algebra 1 to Precalculus. I went through Calc BC in high school, and I'm in the process of teaching myself linear algebra. I can teach anything on precalculus - from trigonometry to vectors to matrix multiplication to De Moirev's theorem and conic sections!

Reading

I graduated from USC with a 3.9 GPA in English. I've done everything from helping elementary school students learn the alphabet to helping high school seniors nail the reading/writing section on the SAT.

SAT Math

I've scored an 800 on the SAT Math, and tutored students in everything from prealgebra to calculus!

Trigonometry

I know trig, everything from the unit circle to DeMoirev's crazy theorem.

Writing

USC English degree, 3.9 GPA, avid reader, writer, and editor

Positive and patient

Met with Alex today for the first time. He was actually willing to sit with my daughters teacher to make sure my daughter gets exactly what she needs. So impressed that someone was willing to do so. Alex is patient and willing to go above and beyond to make sure my daughter succeeds.
