About Blake

I am a current graduate student at USC studying Biomedical Engineering. I have been tutoring for the past 5 years. I began tutoring when I was in high school by helping younger students with the ACT. I also have younger siblings and have tutored them in their school subjects (math, chemistry, physics). I have an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, so I have a solid blend of math and science tutoring capabilities.

I have completed organic chemistry courses, several physics courses (circuits, fluid mechanics, etc.), and up through differential equations in regards to math. I have tutored in all of those subjects while I was in college. I performed well on the GRE (>160 in verbal and qualitative) and for the past year have been helping my friends employ the strategies I successfully used. I'm happy to say that all of them scored in the upper quartile and have been accepted to graduate school.

Learning takes time and knowledge isn't immediately bequeathed during a tutoring session. When I tutor people, I really like helping to build a detailed step by step approach to solving problems. I think that it is crucial to understand the "why" behind problems so students are capable of handling any situation in the subject they are studying. I know that everyone has different learning styles and my tutoring approach is tailored to the individual so they can achieve their best results. I am very passionate about doing whatever it takes to see all of the people I tutor reach the level of success they want. Most importantly, I will be patient and give you my unwilling support.

I am available most days and on the weekends. I am more than willing to travel to tutor in person. I am excited to hear from you and look forward to working together in the future.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have been tutoring the ACT for over 5 years currently. I am a Master's student in Biomedical Engineering so I have a strong math background. I have also tutored students in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus in the past, all of which are subjects covered on the math section of the ACT.

ACT Science

When I took the ACT, science was the section I scored the highest on. I have been doing ACT tutoring for 5 years. My own personal experience and my tutoring experience with this section has allowed me to craft and teach effective strategies to achieve good scores.

Help for Molarity and Buffers

Blake has helped understand the concept of the a problem not just telling me what I should do. He ask me to explain why I am doing something and that helped me understand what I needed to do on the problem.
