About Susannah

Hello!

Are you looking for someone to help your child review basic knowledge and skills like ABC's and 123's? Does your child have trouble focusing and completing homework but has the knowledge and skills to complete the work?

I am a developmental interventionist currently working at a pediatric clinic. My work consists of assessing and treating children ages 2-16 years old who have developmental delays such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and co-occuring disorders. Mainly therapy is at the child's home in order to address the practical everyday skills a child needs in order to function at home and in the community. Skills target 6 domains: self-care, communication, health & safety, social, self-direction and leisure .I conduct therapy using the Developmental Individual-difference Relationship-based Floor time model (DIR). This model focuses on building healthy foundations for social, emotional, and intellectual capacities rather than focusing on skills and isolated behaviors. Many children on the spectrum benefit from ABA therapy. I use Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) to apply interventions to improve socially significant behaviors and demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior. I will Incorporate parent education at every tutoring session in order to provide strategies, modeling, and resources to parents to be used outside of sessions.

I have a passion for working with children and I will treat your child like she/he is my own! I have tutored children with special needs especially focusing on increasing sustained attention, eye contact and speech and language! Building rapport with a child is so important! Once a child feels comfortable and safe they can begin to work on skills in a trusting environment. If you ever heard the saying, "when you have met a child with autism, you have only met one child with autism"! Every child is unique with different strengths and weaknesses. I work from a strength based approach, which focuses on building on your child's strengths in order to increases confidence and motivation. I tailor my tutoring methods to your specific child's needs and I am flexible in adapting sessions when needed. When I start working with a client, I am totally invested 100% in putting in everything I can to help facilitate change.

I really enjoy what I do and look forward to working with you!

I am a developmental interventionist and have a master's in mental health counseling. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy and use play therapy modalities when working with children. I currently work with children on the autistic spectrum and co-occurring disorders providing parent training, ABA and DIR floor time therapy.

I thoroughly enjoy working with children and cannot wait to get started!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I am a developmental interventionist and work with children of various ages on the autistic spectrum. I have a master's in mental health counseling and currently work at a pediatric and diagnostic clinic working with these children. I provide various therapies including ABA and DIR floor time. In addition, I have taken an extra 50 hours of training focusing on data collection, parent training and various play therapy modalities. Every child with autism is unique and through developmental individual relationship based therapy, we teach children how to interact socially and improve eye contact and communication. Each child may have struggles in different area such as sustained attention or lack of eye contact which inhibits homework from being completed. I am experienced at helping children accomplish their school responsibilities using these various techniques.
