About Matt

I am an experienced tutor who is currently 'all but dissertation' on my way to finishing my PhD in experimental high-energy physics at UCLA.

I have taught several courses at UCLA for over 5 years and have been tutoring consistently since my undergraduate years. I love teaching and interacting with students, helping them to build a solid understanding of concepts and problem-solving to really help them succeed. My tutoring experience includes university students and those attending top private schools, including Harvard-Westlake.

I have a great understanding of the different ways people learn, and always pay close attention in order to figure out how to best help the student become confident and competent in the material.

Math is crucial for high levels of physics, and I have always had a talent for math. In high school I placed in the top 3 in several regional math competitions, and have studied math up through differential and tensor calculus. I also know the AP calculus curriculum very well, and received a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam. I received perfect scores on my math SAT, SAT II, and GRE tests.

I have done much tutoring in math and statistics as well, and use heavy statistics for my thesis work.

I have been studying physics since high school, and have attained my PhD in high level physics research. The majority of classes I have taught and tutoring I have done have been in various subjects of physics.

I began studying C and C++ in undergraduate and continued studying them in graduate school. For my graduate research work, I have worked extensively with C++ as well as other languages, doing real development of software parallel with other developers.

I hope to hear from you and work with you, helping you fulfill your maximum potential!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

I began my programming education in high school, and minored in it in college. I have extensive experience with C++ developing analysis software for my research project. I also develop in other languages, and have done minor app development in my free time. I generally code for at least 20 hours a week

Calculus

I received a 5 on my Calculus BC AP exam. I have also taken several years of calculus as part of my PhD program

Physics

Physics PhD candidate at UCLA, all but dissertation. See my profile!

SAT Math

I scored an 800 on my SAT math, SAT II Math, and received a 5 on my AP Calculus BC exam.

Statistics

I use statistics in my daily research, and have taken statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. I have experience tutoring statistics at the high school and undergraduate levels.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Matt was able to explain stats concepts to me in a clear and concise way. He took the time to go through every problem and broke each one down so I could get a better understanding of how to do it by myself.
