About Nestor

I have taught 3rd-6th graders how to play chess. Some of my students have a little bit of experience playing the game. The majority of my students in the classroom have never played chess. I have been the chess leader at an elementary school for four years. My chess club meets two to three times a week. Usually, I have 20 to 23 students in my chess club. I teach chess in sections. I do not hand you all the information at the same time. I teach my students in sections. For example, I will introduce the names of the chess pieces and how they move. Second, I will discuss chess openings. Third, I do chess exercises with the students. In addition, I use a demo board, so you can see what I am explaining.

The after school program where I work takes part in an annual chess tournament. The students in my chess club play against one another. The four top players with the highest points advance to the regional chess tournament. They play against students from other schools at the regionals and I play against adults from other schools. The kids learn how to compete with other students, they make their own decision on the chess board and hope they make the right moves.

I approach teaching the same way that my music teacher taught me. He once asked me, "How do you eat an elephant?" I was a bit confused by this. I told him my answer. It was not what he wanted to hear. He looked at me and replied, "You eat it piece by piece." In other words, when you are learning something, you have to learn little by little and not everything at the same time. This is how I approach in teaching you chess, piece by piece. This will make it easy for you to learn chess without being confused. The more questions you ask, the more chess will make sense to you.

If you have little knowledge or zero knowledge how to play chess, I will sit down with you and make you enjoy and understand the game of chess. At first you might be scared because there are so many pieces that need to be moved. This is not the case. I will break it down for you. We will use a tournament chessboard to practice. I hope to hear from you soon.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
