About Kelly

I have tutored math privately for three years in levels ranging from 4th grade Common Core to AP Calculus. More specifically, I began tutoring in high school when worked as my high school's head high school math peer tutor for two years. I've privately tutored Geometry, middle school math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, and beginning trumpet. I am a full time UCLA undergraduate majoring in Mathematics for Teaching, and I am hoping to grow as a teacher by helping your student reach their maximum academic potential.

My hundreds of hours of experience in tutoring math have allowed me to grow into an effective math tutor. I understand that each student learns differently and am prepared to teach concepts in many ways! Additionally, my outgoing nature and encouraging methods allow me to have positive relationships with my tutees.

I am a highly motivated and hard working teaching student with strong communication skills who loves to improve people's lives by teaching them.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

As a current UCLA Mathematics for Teaching student, I am being educated in the latest standards and teaching strategies. I have been taught common core standards in multiple classes and there will be more to come. My success in learning contemporary education methods and standards has even provided me with a full-ride scholarship to the UCLA Curtis Center Summer Institute! Once there, I will collaborate with teachers in the field as we learn about how to construct our own SBAC questions for our students.

Study Skills

I have spent a lot of time helping my tutees organize their material into both helpful notes and other effective studying techniques. I understand how most students despise studying, and I know the key is finding a personalized system that is tailored to their learning style and personality.

Trumpet

I have been playing trumpet for 10 years and I have participated in 2 honor bands. I have been section leader on 2 separate occasions, and I play top parts in the world-class UCLA Solid Gold Sound Marching Band. I have also tutored Trumpet for one year with immense success.
