I studied ASL for 2.5 years at the University of Texas at Austin. I was among the top students in my ASL classes, and I always made some of the top grades. I was also part of UT's ASL research program which gave me a deeper understanding of the language. I volunteered at several events within Austin's Deaf community, so I have hands on experience signing with Deaf people. I also briefly taught an ASL club at a local high school while in college.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
