About Arielle

My name is Arielle and I am entering my 5th year as a special education teacher in Los Angeles. I am originally from the East Coast and graduated from the University of Delaware in 2012 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. While I was there, I also was able to pursue my special education certification. In 2015, I completed my Masters degree in Educational Leadership through a special, summer-based program at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. For the past four years, I have taught at a K-12 school in Los Angeles and have had the opportunity to work with both elementary and high school students with mild/moderate disabilities as well as general education students who may be struggling academically. Currently, I am the K-5 Resource Program Specialist at my school-site.

During my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to provide 1-1 tutoring to a few families. Additionally, in my current role as a Resource Specialist, I am constantly charged with providing individualized instruction and intervention to students in 1-1 and small group settings throughout the school day. As a teacher in a heavily impacted community, I also provide 1-1 after school tutoring to my most struggling students. I really enjoy seeing how much growth students, who may struggle in the typical classroom setting, are able to make in more individualized learning environments. In a tutoring capacity, I am able to modify my instruction to meet the specific needs and interests of the student I am working with. Additionally, I am able to be particularly creative in my instructional approaches and will often incorporate multi-modal techniques into my lessons. It is extremely important for me to empower the students I work with in their learning, by helping them to set achievable and measurable goals and to celebrate their successes.

Throughout my teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to provide whole class, small group, and 1-1 elementary math instruction based on the Common Core Standards. I have worked with multiple different curriculums and have also modified curriculums to meet the needs of individual students. In my math instruction, I incorporate both visual and kinesthetic strategies to support all students in meeting our learning outcomes.

I am extremely passionate about teaching students to read. Without foundational literacy, students have such limited access to every other subject area. I have taught phonemic awareness and phonics skills as well as decoding and blending skills to students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Additionally, I have worked with students to improve their reading fluency and comprehension of texts. With my teaching background, I have access to many different resources and tools to help students feel successful and ultimately develop a love for reading.

During my undergraduate career, I majored in elementary education and was able to student teach across different elementary grade levels. I have spent the past 3 years as a teacher in an elementary setting and have worked with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. In my role, I work with both students with and without disabilities, to develop foundational skills and better access the grade level curriculum across subject areas. Much of the work I have done is centered in teaching students reading, writing, and math.

In my experience as a special education teacher, I have taught in both a self contained (SDC) setting for students with disabilities, as well as the resource program. I have experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities including students with Specific Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and Autism.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions! I look forward to getting to know you and your student and helping him or her to achieve academic growth and success!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
