About Kody

If you need a tutor who will go above and beyond to guide your student to their best score on the English portions of the SAT, look no further. In my experience tutoring students for the New SAT, I have familiarized myself with the available practice tests, and I have developed an efficient strategy to identify the areas of focus that will most benefit each individual student. I focus on periodic practice tests first to provide a baseline, and then to track progress over time. This focus on quantifiable improvement imparts confidence to students and allows me to fine tune my approach.

The SAT can seem like a daunting test, and it is unquestionably an important one. But with efficient and focused study, any student can improve their score. Any student. It doesn't matter if they are starting from a very low score or a nearly perfect score, if they are willing to invest time and energy to improvement, they can reach their target score, or even exceed it! Some students will benefit from improved test-taking and time management strategies, some from focused learning of grammar for the Language section, some from improved comprehension for the Reading section, and others from understanding rhetorical analysis for the Essay section. Some students simply need the boost of confidence that comes from knowing that the SAT can be mastered by anyone who is willing to put in the work.

In addition to the English portions of the SAT, I offer tutoring in equivalent ACT subjects, as well as general tutoring in the areas listed under my subject qualifications, including English instruction for elementary school children. No matter the subject I teach, I always bring to it the same diligence and care that I bring to tutoring in the more popular area of standardized test preparation.

As for my background, I have a B.A. in English with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in philosophy from Auburn University, a school which I attended on a full out-of-state academic scholarship largely thanks to my standardized test scores. As a working writer, English--whether literature, writing, or grammar--is my passion, and I always bring that energy to my tutoring in the hopes that I can help students learn to love and appreciate it, too. As a tutor and teacher, I have extensive experience in areas both academic--elementary after school programs, private GED instruction, college-level literature and composition--and non-academic--years of experience teaching scuba diving to people of all ages and from all parts of the world.

If you are interested in working together or have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
