About Laurienne

I am an Adjunct Associate Professor of Dance. I have been teaching all ages for many years. I love the English language, I am a teacher of Dance History and Appreciation, Meditation, Yoga, Dance,Choreography, Theater, and Art.

I have taught Body Dynamics and Body Conditioning at Los Angeles City College. I was one of the first instructors at the New York Health Club, teaching the use of nautilus machines. I maintained a private practice in Malibu stretching Tennis players. I was a physical Therapist aide for 3 years, administering massage and ultra -sound. I maintained a private practice helping rehabilitate backs and was a therapeutic masseuse for many years.

I was first a major in Art at UCLA. I studied with Amato, Stussy, Elgart. Currently I study Ling-nan watercolor painting from Angela Hsin , a master in the discipline. I have been drawing and painting or many years.

My special ability is to help people empower themselves in whatever discipline they wish to achieve. Through practice, focus and commitment, I help people attain their goals. I enjoy working with people and love to help them discover their true nature and strengths and guide them in becoming the best they can be and helping them to do the best they can do.

I was a professional dancer and actress in my teens through my young adulthood. I studied and performed Shakespeare, In high school, I took all the literature courses offered, I was originally an English major in college. I am an avid reader and a member of a writing workshop for the last 3 years, working on two books at the present time. As a teacher I have been speaking publicly to both large and small audiences for many years. I am a teacher of Dance History and Appreciation, helping students learn how to do research papers and write intelligent, interesting readable papers using the English language properly. I love helping people gain confidence in their chosen field.

I enjoy working one on one with people helping them to strengthen their weaknesses and excell in their strengths. I hope you will contact me to meet and schedule an appointment if we feel it is a good fit.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballet

I am an Associate Adjunct Professor of Dance. I began studying dance at age 3. I studied with Carmelita Maracci, Nico Charisse and taught ballet for Ebsen Studios, Westside Academy of Dance. I have both a BA and MA in Dance from UCLA with a major in Choreography and minor in Dance Therapy. I have taught all ages of Ballet and danced professionally.

Drawing

Yoga

I have been teaching Yoga at Los Angeles City College in the Kinesiology Department and the Dance Department for 16 years. I have been practicing Yoga since I was 18 years old. I have studied Iyengar style with Paul Cabanas at Yogaworks and other teachers at the Larchmont Center for Yoga. I have studied Kundalini Yoga with Siri Sevak. Primarily I teach Hatha Yoga with vinyasa and static asanas. I also have had a private practice using Yoga Therapy and Dance Therapy techniques, working one on one with people of all ages.I have worked in a physical therapy office administering massage and helping people to exercise using proper alignment and breath. I received both my BA and MA in Dance at UCLA.
