About Kene

Teaching and tutoring is something I have done for over 10 years. I love math and sciences which was my driving force to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Molecular Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and a medical degree from UC Los Angeles. I have studied as a surgeon for the last three years and now I am taking the year to work with the community and do research. Given this, I would love the opportunity to share my knowledge with students who need assistance.

I typically teach Math (including Algebra I/II, Geometry, Precalculus) and Science (Biology, Anatomy, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy, among other subjects). I am open to teaching other topics as well as teaching group sessions. I have experience teaching students in after school programs, college prep courses, MCAT courses, undergraduate summer programs as well as medical students. I simply look forward to the opportunity to share knowledge in an individualized student-directed session. Looking forward to hearing from you!

I completed various courses in Theoretical Math while at UC Berkeley. I have tutored Math at various levels up to Calculus.

I have studied science in depth for over a decade. I am a graduate of David Geffen School of Medicine (UCLA) with a medical degree. This has required in-depth knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

I have taught a UCLA summer course for the Physics portion of the medical college admissions test. I also feel very comfortable with the Biology portion of the test.

My tutoring sessions are about my students and what is needed to improve their understanding and confidence in the topic of study. I pride myself in being an effective teacher. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

MCAT

I took the MCAT successfully and matriculated to medical school where I graduated with a surgical residency position after completing all medical school requirements. I have also taught a Physics MCAT prep course at the UCLA campus for premedical students; I also assisted with other MCAT topics when needed. Given my experience taking the MCAT and my experience teaching the topics I would be an asset to students in need of tutoring on these topics.

Pharmacology

As a medical doctor, this is one of my areas of strength. In undergrad, I studied pharmacokinetics (how the body breaks down drugs). In medical school, I learned the use of medications, mechanism of action, side effect profile and effectivity. As I took care of patients, I was able to use various drugs and see the results on patients. This was in an inpatient, outpatient, intensive care unit and surgical setting. I had to teach the medical students that were on the medical team. I can teach this topic.

Kene was a knowledgeable and patient tutor

Kene helped my daughter with physics. They reviewed notes, the study guide and worked the problems. Kene asked her questions to ensure she understood the concepts.
