New York University (Dramatic Writing)
Hi my name is D'Elia! I'm a private tutor in the Santa Monica area who has experience tutoring college writing, high school math (Algebra I through Calculus and Statistics), essay writing, and the SAT and ACT tests.
I attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and graduated with highest academic honors in May of 2014 with a major in Dramatic Writing and a minor in Psychology. My background in psychology helps me better assess how students can improve their grades or scores outside of just knowing the material. I help them understand how the test might look and how to prepare mentally for testing. I pinpoint a student's learning style and determine how best to help him or her learn and get motivated. I have experience working with test anxiety as well as ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome. I customize my tutoring methods based on the student's needs and bring a creative approach to both writing and math. My current focus is on test preparation and helping students improve their SAT and ACT scores.
I have 2000+ hours of tutoring experience.
Contact me if you think my teaching style fits with your learning style. I've been known to raise course averages by 3 to 20 points over a few weeks depending on a student's motivation. Five stars! She shows patience and knowledge and can speak in a way that keeps our kids engaged. Thank you, DElia!
An amazing tutor for our teenage daughter, Amanda. She arrived promptly for the session and put our daughter at ease immediately. She explained concepts clearly and used resources that she had on her phone. She is an outstanding tutor, with a high degree of intelligence, integrity and professionalism.
Joey is hitting his stride and gaining confidence in Geometry with DElia. She looks at the big picture, and anticipates the challenges ahead. She extends support beyond the lesson and invites the student to contact her with any challenges he encounters at any time. I would call that excellent. We are so pleased to have her helping Joey!
DElia really tailored the lesson to my rising 7th grader's learning style, and honed in on exactly what areas he was having trouble with - she's clear, thorough, and rigorous - makes sure the student really understands the material - also came very well-prepared for the lesson.
D'Elia is an amazing tutor. She reviewed and taught my daughter concepts that the teacher did not cover thoroughly in class. She thoughtfully plans and creates a strategy for the best approach to help your child be successful.
Delia is great to work with and understands my weakness in Algebra 2. She helps me improve on the problems that I need to understand better. I highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I recently helped a student taking Algebra I online raise her grade from a 73 to a 93 over the course of a month.
Professional writer and writing major. My students earn "most improved" writing awards at both high school and college levels.
