Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Music

I have a BM in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music. I have been teaching music in students' homes for four years, with a curriculum of methods I learned at Berklee, through Mel Bay books and other materials customized to fit each students' interests and goals. I have experience with ear training, performance, harmony, recording, songwriting, history and music business.

Guitar

I have been teaching beginning and intermediate guitar to students in their homes for four years. I use the Mel Bay method for introducing students to reading music on the guitar. I also give them a solid foundation in chart reading and writing, strumming and picking patterns, chord shapes, scales, and writing on the guitar.

Songwriting

I graduated Berklee College of Music with a degree in Songwriting and I am now a professional songwriter and performer. I have written several albums of original material and several unreleased singles with a big name artist in the electronic music industry. At Berklee I was required to take song and lyric writing levels 1-4, harmony and ear training classes, arranging, recording classes, singer/songwriter workshop, many songwriting electives and a directed study with a songwriting department professor. I love helping students' find their voice through music and expand their technical skill by writing their own songs. Whether it's just for fun or if they have a career ahead of them, learning to put words to music is incredibly healing and great exercise for the mind.

Voice (Music)

I have been singing my entire life. I have studied voice privately under many teachers all over the west coast and at Berklee College of Music. I currently write and perform in the electronic, indie and folk genres but I have a background in singing and teaching many other styles including rock, pop, funk, jazz, reggae, country, musical theater and blues. I was also a part of an award-winning chamber choir for six years and won second place in the Fullerton Solo Vocal Jazz Competition in 2009. I can teach all ages and skill levels, whether they want to sing professionally or just for fun. I give my students well rounded lessons in warm ups, healthy singing, proper breathing and vocal technique, performance, solfedge, and theory.
