Making art and teaching art have always functioned together in my life. They have formed an interwoven thread that strengthens every day. I was born and educated in Canada and have resided in Los Angeles for many years. I presently balance my own painting activities with teaching beginners at colleges in Los Angeles. I have taught painting, design, drawing, AP Studio Art and survey art history. I enjoy the challenges of teaching and the rewards that come from that relationship.
Art activity is ageless and accessible to all whether it is a personal exploration or help with a structured "class". Visual art is a language that is shaped through time and experiences; much of it is a learned skill. I see tutoring as a way to exchange those skills, concepts and support.
You will find me to be communicative, able to "break down" concepts, able to show/demonstrate approaches, and also able to provide support and sincere intellectual curiosity about your challenges and direction.
My latest art exhibition (Paintings and drawings) was in Fall 2015 and Spring 2016. My teaching at the colleges is ongoing; this semester I taught Design and this summer I will be teaching Art History (Survey) at local colleges.
I'd like to see where you are at, whether it is in drawing, painting, or a specific course such as design or art history. We'll start from there and proceed in a way that you can handle. If you have time constraints on your learning or schedule, we will be realistic and proceed on a clear path towards your goal. Making art and teaching art have always functioned together in my life. Vicky has been so patient with my two kids, who don't speak English as their first language. So it's learning painting and the language at the same time. She was very kind to them and the kids just made wonderful masterpieces.
Victoria is very patient and sweet with my children. She is very creative when it comes to working with small children. I would highly recommend her as your Art Tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've taught part time for over 15 years at the community colleges and at Mount St. Mary's University. I've taught design, drawing, painting, and art history. I also teach a short class for teachers of art. Before that I taught art at a private school, high school level.
Painting and drawing are the primary focus of my own studio work. Besides that, I have taught art part time for 15 years in the community colleges and at Mount St. Mary's University. I have taught design, drawing, painting, art appreciation, art history, and art for teachers.
