About Grace

I have been tutoring for 8 years in SAT/ACT Math, SAT/ACT Writing, K-5 Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I/II. I have also been counseling students apply for colleges as well. My students have gotten into Harvard, Yale, Columbia, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and more. I believe getting into these universities can be done by anyone as long as you start early enough. I love being able to demystify the college application process for students and parents.

In addition to subject tutoring, I love being able to help ESL students. I taught at an ESL school for 2 years and tutored ESL students online from China, Korea, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching ESL students. I feel as though I learn just as much as my students about their country and culture.

I know the in's and out's of these tests and Algebra (the key math subject on these exams). After teaching for 8 years, I know how to go about time management, test strategies, and build a strong foundation of algebra skills to succeed on the test.

I have created numerous ESL conversation lesson plans, grammar exercise worksheets, and Business English workshops as an ESL tutor for 2 years. Teaching ESL has become a passion of mine and I truly love teaching ESL.

I've been doing this for quite awhile and I've learned how to adapt my lesson plans to every individual student, which is why I love one-on-one tutoring so much.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I've taught the ACT Math section for 8 years. It's something that I am very familiar with and confident in teaching. I teach the basics of Pre-Algebra, Algebra I/II, and Geometry. I have created curriculum for ACT/SAT Math for numerous tutoring centers like Elite, Braintext, Alpha Academy, and IVY Inspiration.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra for 8 years. I have a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley, and a Masters in Education from Harvard. I teach a strong foundation starting with single variables, linear equations, functions, exponents, radicals, two-variable equations, inequalities, quadratic equations, and expressions.

I taught at the English Language Center in Westwood, CA where I taught Beginning to Intermediate Conversation English, Business English, and English Writing and Grammar. I like to frame English in the student's culture and country and get them personally involved in learning English. I feel that when they are able to learn English in an environment that's open to all cultures it's a lot more exciting and applicable.

SAT Math

I've taught the SAT Math Section for 8 years. I found that after the basics, it's really about time management. You want to make sure to get the easy questions answered in less than a minute, so that you can allocate more time to harder questions. The SAT Math usually works from easy to hard. So, it's good to know that and management your time well. In addition, if you do enough practice questions you will start to understand the type of questions it involves.

SAT Writing

I've been teaching the SAT Writing section for 8 years. I try to break down the section into a more formulaic manner because there are certain topics that the SAT will focus on. And it becomes a pattern that you can see when you do many practice tests. In addition the essay section is very important. I like students having a few books, quotes, historic events, and people in mind that they can adapt to essay questions. The topics are fairly open so you can adapt most examples to your thesis.
