Yale Educated Tutor: Math, English, French, & Spanish
I’m a Yale graduate with extensive teaching experience. Languages and math are my specialties; English is my native tongue, and I speak fluent French, as well as excellent Spanish. I majored in French at Yale and spent long periods of time in France as a child during the summers with a host family. I’m a Yale graduate with extensive teaching experience. Languages and math are my specialties; English is my native tongue, and I speak fluent French, as well as excellent Spanish. I majored in French at Yale and spent long periods of time in France as a child during the summers with a host family. In addition, I took Spanish classes at Yale and have lived in Latin America for over a year, including six months during 2014 in Mexico where I taught scuba diving in all three languages. I also help students with science and history classes through the high school levels, and I offer all my students general homework help, study skills, and organization habits that apply to every aspect of learning.
I grew up just outside of Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. I attended an all-boys prep school where I played football, wrestled, and rowed for the crew team. I also founded and acted as editor-in-chief of a newspaper dedicated solely to sports and school spirit. Early on, I learned how to balance a rigorous academic curriculum with the demands of athletic teams and other time-consuming extracurricular activities. This foundation served me well at Yale where I continued rowing crew, this time for an NCAA Division I program.
My tutoring philosophy: every student is unique and therefore requires specific help designed to foster optimal growth based on their individual needs. With the current education system, curricula are often set before the students ever step foot into the classroom. This system fails to recognize differences in how students learn. That’s where I come in.
I understand that while some students might need a little nudge to help stay focused on their studies, other students might need to learn how to relax just before a test, trusting in their preparation. I’m constantly gauging the type of help to which my students will respond best as it often changes; for example, with the same student one day we could be harnessing an abundance of energy and focusing that energy on the task at hand, while another day we could be working to build excitement for a subject that may not come as easily. I enjoy nothing more than seeing my students excel, and, to achieve that end, I use whatever means I believe are best suited to that individual student at that particular time.

Michael has worked with two of my children in math, english, history, science and Spanish over the last school year. The results have been nothing less than outstanding. My son, who is in the spectrum of Autism, has benefited tremendously from Michael’s help both with content as well as organizationally. Both teens’ grades have improved dramatically while working with Michael in a very short amount of time. Michael has also, when needed, communicated directly with teachers and keeps me informed of progress. Working with Michael has turned around both of my teens’ academic year. There is no question that he gets a 5 star rating.Lisa, 25 lessons with Michael

Incredibly gifted at explaining complex ideas
Michael was so patient walking me through the areas I had been struggling with on the SAT. We are still continuing our lessons but I already feel more confident in my skills. He has a great way of explaining things that (on the surface) appear very complex and daunting. Really looking forward to our next session!Carly, 58 lessons with Michael
