UCLA (Theater, Film and TV)
My love for music goes back further than I can remember. I began studying classical violin at age 4, and by the time I was a teenager, I had taught myself numerous other instruments, started writing and producing songs, and was touring Europe with an orchestra. I have been teaching since the age of 16, and since then, attended and graduated UCLA, where I focused on writing music for film, tv, and theater.
To me, the most important thing about teaching is helping students accomplish their own personal musical goals, and nourishing a deep passion and love for music. It is my number one priority that students enjoy their lessons, and I design a unique curriculum for every student that is based on his or her goals.
Part of what makes me a unique teacher is how many facets of music I delve into (classical violin performance; electric violin jazz, rock, hip hop and EDM performance; composition for Film, TV and ads; songwriting and producing for pop, soul, hip hop, indie, rock etc). Not only am I passionate about all these areas, but I work professionally in all of those fields, and have valuable insight into many different avenues of the professional music world.
I always look forward to the opportunity to help someone deepen their passion and understanding of music. My love for music goes back further than I can remember. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I first began composing music as a teenager, writing classical pieces for the orchestras I was in, and jazz tunes for my quartet. I attended Interlochen Academy for Performing Arts, and then UCLA, where I focused specifically on composing for film, television and theater. Straight out of college, I was hired to assist Academy Award-winning actor, Sir Anthony Hopkins, with his musical pursuits, and most recently, I scored the national holiday advertisement for the Golf Channel television network. I love exploring composition in any genre and helping students find their own musical voice through composing.
I taught myself guitar after years of classical violin study. I grew up idolizing the great guitarists of the world, from rock to classical. I studied under Rick Heizman in the San Francisco Bay Area, and currently play guitar in multiple bands and also work as a studio session player.
I began producing my own songs as a teenager. I started with Garage Band, and quickly upgraded to Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Ableton Live. I have experience producing music in a multitude of genres, including but not limited to classical, pop, world music, hip hop, electronic, rock, soul, r & b, and funk. I produce my own songs and compositions, as well as songs for other artists, and compositions for film and TV. Most recently, I produced a song for the Golf Channel television network's national holiday advertisement.
I began writing songs around the age of 12. Over the years I have written songs in many genres including, but not limited to, rock, pop, hip hop, soul, funk, blues and musical theater. My songs have been featured in numerous independent films and have received awards for best music in short film festivals. I also often write songs for other artists to sing.
I began playing violin at the age of 4, in the Yehudi Menuhin violin program. By the time I was a teenager, I had toured Europe and parts of the United States with orchestras. I attended the Interlochen Academy for Performing arts, and then UCLA for my undergraduate degree.
