Hello Potential Student,
I have 10 years experience teaching a variety of art courses: observational drawing, figure drawing, painting, color theory and design fundamentals. I enjoy the creative process, as well as, developing my skills as a visual artist. I primarily focus on my development as a portrait painter. When I'm not painting, I'm tutoring art to pre-teens, teens, and adults. Being a part of my student's development and success is very rewarding. I feel confident that from my lessons and direction I have made an impact on their success in their professional life.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked with a variety of people from all walks of life. This experience has helped me develop into a patient and thoughtful instructor and better understand the needs of each individual.
You can be confident that your experience with me will be beneficial and I will work hard to make sure you get instruction that suits your needs.
All the best,
Richard E. Hello Potential Student,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've been drawing professionally for almost 20 years. I'm an expert in figure drawing, but I have a solid foundation in the basics, and can teach someone to draw literally anything. I teach private lessons at Santa Monica's Paintlab. I also have taught at the college level: figure drawing, observational drawing, and perspective drawing.
I studied graphic design at the Columbus College of Art and Design. I have worked for over 15 years as an independent and for printing and retail companies as a graphic artist. I've taught a variety of graphic design classes at the college level, including: Typography, Collateral Design, and Illustration. I can teach at various skill levels.
I received a MFA from the University of Cincinnati for painting. I teach painting in acrylic or oils, private lessons or small classes. I teach at Paint Lab in Santa Monica as an independent contractor. I have also taught art as an adjunct at Glendale Community College, University of Cincinnati, and The Art Academy of Cincinnati.
