Hello! My name is Brandon B! I am 23 years old and a recent graduate from UCLA with a degree in economics. My schooling and past experience working with kids (particularly elementary and middle school on mission trips overseas) give me the confidence that I will be a great tutor to your child! Not only do I want to see your child succeed on an academic level, I want to see them grow personally, and I hope to help my students work towards these goals!
When I was younger, there were many times where I felt lost and alone because my studies overwhelmed me. I wish I had a tutor for educational and emotional support. I was fortunate enough to work through these obstacles, but it was difficult. I believe the learning process should be easy and relaxed yet challenging at the same time. I look to instill that type of outlook towards school in the students I help.
I studied economics in college, which involves a lot of calculation and work with graphs. These complex ideas can be boiled down to simple mathematical principles which are very important to learn early on. I feel very prepared to lead my students in math studies.
I had a 2000 on the SAT when I was applying for colleges. This was without taking any SAT prep courses at all. I believe my solid English instincts gave me the ability to do well on the test. In addition, I have had a history of doing well in essay writing. I can teach these grammar skills to my students so that they can succeed in the future.
I believe that the foundation for learning at a high level is by knowing the basics until they are second nature to you. All throughout college and high school, I have taken a variety of science classes ranging from oceanography to astronomy. I have experience with the way these kinds of classes work and test. I do well in spelling because I understand prefixes, suffixes, and roots and have read enough to have a decent lexicon of words. These are all things I can bring to the table in tutoring your child!
If you are interested, please contact me at my email for this website and I will be happy to discuss more about teaching your child! I usually will respond within 12 hours so count on that! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
