In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated from UCLA's Honors College summa cum laude as an English major. At UCLA, I studied under some of the most illustrious professors in my subject. I learned a number of vital skills, including close-reading, critical thinking, and formulating clear and precisely written academic essays.
I have been a passionate reader since a very young age, and I have carried my love of literature into my academic and professional life. In the words of Erasmus, "When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes."
During my time as an English major at UCLA, I analyzed a countless number of works, employing close-reading analytical techniques in order to develop an intimate and comprehensive understanding of themes, character and structure.
It is safe to say that this subject is one of my passions, and there is no greater satisfaction than helping a student understand the underlying concepts and themes within a novel.
The only thing better than a good book is sharing it with another!
I scored 800 on my SAT Reading, and have experience assisting students in developing and strengthening their reading comprehension skills. There are a number of strategies that can help you succeed on the SAT, including elimination, identifying structural words and phrases, and summarizing main arguments. I can help you implement these techniques as you study for the SAT and improve both your comprehension skills and confidence as your test date approaches.
