About Darius

Darius E. is a classically trained Baritone-Countertenor and graduate of Duke Ellington School of Arts where he studied vocal performance under the tutelage and guidance of Edward Jackson. Many of his accomplishments there include studying and/or playing the roles of Marty (Dreamgirls), Frank Maurrant (Street Scene), Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), and an Evil Step Sister (Cinderella); including, participating in the DC-CAP Vocal Competition as a Semi-Finalist two years in a row; performing at prominent venues such as John F. Kennedy Center, Warner Theatre, Levine School of Music; inclusive, of sharing the stage with acclaimed artist such as Patti Labelle, Take 6, Earth, Wind, Fire, Barry Manilow, and many others.

After he graduated from Duke Ellington School of the Arts with a Vocal Performance diploma he migrated to New York to indulge in a varied amount of Off Broadway community projects partnering with Gymboree, Ethnic Artist Alliance, and building his professional mobile voice studio (Royal Vocal Academy); before shortly transitioning to Los Angeles, California to further pursue his artistic career. He matriculated volunteer hours at Los Angeles Opera while effectively establishing a soft opening for his musical and film debut in the heart and luxury of some of the most vibrant venues and organizations in Los Angeles; giving a lecture and masterclass series to k-12 graders throughout the Los Angeles Unified District teaching about the anatomy of the body and the human voice.

Recently, he finished an apprenticeship under the guidance of Tony-Award Winning, Grammy Nominated classical crossover artist, Lisa Hopkins Seegmiller, where he trained as a counter-tenor and landed the job as a Teaching Artist/Musical Director of Dixie Arts Conservatory Musical Theatre division. Darius is currently preparing for various major vocal competitions and esteemed summer programs local and abroad; inclusive, of planning to continue his studies collaborating with legendary countertenor, John Holiday at Ithaca College of Music and Ivy League School, Cornell University where he has been accepted into the Bachelor's-Masters program in Vocal Performance and Musicology on a full ride scholarship.

Darius is interested in continually keeping his techniques and teaching modern while building his reputation as one of America's most celebrated countertenors. He is already establishing significant summer programs and faculty positions to celebrate his love for the field of performing arts to young aspiring emerging artist.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have had the distinctive opportunity to graduate from Duke Ellington School of Arts where I learned the vital interpretation and application of vocal health, projection, breath support, amplification, etc.

I have studied and performed with prominent artist such as Denyce Graves, Lisa Hopkins Seegmiller, Edward Jackson, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Take 6, Patti Labelle, and more.

I also have the distinguished privilege of being a Teaching Artist and Musical Director at Dixie Arts Conservatory under the Musical Theatre division; inclusive, of a prior apprenticeship at Los Angeles Opera; inclusive, of affording lecture series and masterclasses throughout the Los Angeles Unified District.
