Hi, thank you for visiting my page.
Worked as a Pre-Calculus and Calculus teacher with strong credentialing, I have over 5 years of classroom experience. Outside the classroom, I have garnered over 10 years of tutoring experience, specializing in middle school and high school math. I am extremely passionate about Math education and I want all students to see that Math can be more than just memorizing and regurgitating. I am quick to ensure my students throw away their "I am bad at math" mindset. There is no such thing! With the right guidance and students' reciprocation in the form of effort, I believe that all students can advance and excel in Math. And because of this philosophy, my students have consistently outperformed district averages by 25%. This led to my being awarded the Teacher of the Year.
My philosophy to Math education looks different for students at different level. But one thing that does stay consistent and has withstood the test of time is this: Once students experience the joy of success, whether through Ace-ing their quizzes, leading a discussion in class, or simply helping their peers, they are more likely to put in the time and effort to experience that same sensation. My job is to help students achieve this winning streak.
I understand that not all students are the same and may stand at different levels, and here's my approach to address this diversity:
-Students at a high level of mastery: Pose challenging questions and help them develop a solid metacognitive process. Focus on extending their thinking that helps them see how the current unit connects to the subsequent units. Navigate through various word problems that will increase their math literacy. Start looking at the next unit to help them get ahead.
-Students at a medium level of mastery: Pose questions to guide their thinking. Build content mastery through increasing math fluency. Focus on procedural and conceptual understanding to help them feel successful to aid and propel them to the high level mastery column.
-Students at low level of mastery: Focus on increasing fluency with multiple problems. Start with procedural understanding and gradually release them to conceptual. Focus on study habits such as note taking skills, navigating resources, and leveraging notes/textbook so that they don't feel helpless in class, while also increasing their in-class engagement.
Why Math is important
Math is extremely applicable not because it helps you with calculating tips or your personal finances, but because it helps you to venture into a complex, higher order thinking. When you are able to solve complex trigonometric functions or evaluate derivatives and integrals (which you will be able to by the end of my sessions), you will also be able to reason and think abstractly. Statistics have shown that the higher the level of math classes you take, the higher the chances of earning your Bachelor’s degree. For example, if you have mastered Algebra I by the time you graduate high school, your chances of earning your Bachelor’s degree is only 7% (Exhibit 1). As you take higher level courses, those chances increase dramatically (full mastery of Calculus in high school will increase the likelihood to 83%). Math education opens up your mind and teaches you to break down even the most difficult concepts out there in the world.
I earned my Bachelor’s in Business and Accounting from University of Southern California in 2010. With my background in business, I worked at Merrill Lynch and Target prior to joining Teach for America (TFA). Joining TFA provided me with an invaluable privilege of transforming the minds of young students, a powerful experience that forever changed the lens through which I view the world. In the process of teaching various math courses, I fell in love with the complexity, rigor, and application of mathematics. The love for math has led me to pursue a Master’s Degree in Math Education with Johns Hopkins. Now, I am working as a software engineer at an education based company.
Isaac is a patient and extremely knowledgeable tutor. He worked with our son who has struggled in Algebra to really master the concepts and to have confidence in his knowledge. His grade rose from a D+ to a solid A in one term. And most importantly, the confidence gained has helped him in so many other ways. Thank you Isaac!Elisabeth, 53 lessons with Isaac

Highly Capable and Understands the Needs of his Students
My son has been struggling in his Algebra 2 class to a point where if he didn't get a tutor, he could potentially fail. And we found Isaac. After just 2 sessions, my son started to comprehend all of the math lessons in class. Shortly after, he began regaining his confidence in Math. He has earned his first A- in the semester! But what makes Isaac amazing stems from his ability to understand his students and help them develop study skills and note taking skills that will help them feel self-sufficient and confident.Soo, 12 lessons with Isaac
