About Justin

Hello! I am glad you are interested in having me as a tutor. Since I was a small child I have always been interested in teaching. Having spent twenty years of my life in school in the pursuit of a Master's Degree, I have learned that working hard and persevering pays off. It was not unusual for me to take and even audit subjects that had nothing to do with my major, simply because I was interested in learning them. I believe that my love of learning will pay off now that I have the ability and opportunity to help others learn. Having started tutoring when one of my friends needed help with their children's school work, I instantly fell in love with helping those in need. I would go on to tutor three days a week in such subjects such as History, English, and Science. It was then I realized that tutoring others who need assistance was truly a fulfilling job! Each student is unique and I always try to find their strengths and weaknesses in an effort to help them learn effectively.

I love teaching subjects I am passionate about! I believe If I am passionate, then the student I am teaching will be passionate as well. Having studied a variety of courses in school over the course of many years, I am excited to pass on the plethora of knowledge to those who come after me. I believe that homework should be fun and educational at the same time. I always set goals for my students that are attainable, so that when they succeed, they will know it! To teach students subjects, I try to implement memory games and fun ways of mastering certain information. If they have to learn many events related to a historical timeline, I will break up the events and teach them in a way that the student can remember the date and importance accurately. if vocabulary words are assigned to be learned, I will have the student use them in their everyday life and conversation. These approaches create a fun and educational method in helping students master their material.

I focus primarily on middle/high school students and those learning English as a second language. As for the location of the tutoring, I would be more than happy to travel to your location to tutor. Of course, I would urge for a quiet place where the student can focus effectively. In the event of an emergency, you may cancel and we will reschedule. I will try to make up the class, just let me know at least 3 hours ahead of time. My strength is English in which I have taken Advanced and Honors English studies throughout High School. In college, I have taken literature classes and Vocabulary centered classes for writing. I also hold a Masters in Film Production including six plus years of Narrative film, Production, Screenwriting and Film History.

If you have any questions or concerns, I will be happy to address them. Please contact me to schedule lessons and begin your journey learning and acquiring knowledge. After all, knowledge is power! I look forward to hearing from you and working together to achieve academic success!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have studied AP history in school. I have helped tutor American history to middle school students. I continually study history and a historical event each day.

Film

I have studied film production, screenwriting, and film studies in order to attain my Masters Degree in Film Production. I have written and directed several short films for my classes and the public. I have edited my films, and other professor's film and am an active writer/director. I go to the movies often and study the writing, lighting, character development and editing of each film.

Piano

I have taken Piano lessons for 12+ years. I have composed my own songs that were performed at school events. I have taught piano to family and friends.

Vocabulary

I have studied vocabulary in AP classes in high school. I try to use advanced vocabulary in my books and writings. I have developed a note card memorization game that helps students learn vocabulary.
