I am passionate about helping students to be successful. I truly believe that all students have the ability to excel in their studies and I know that with the right tools, motivation and support any student can increase his academic performance.
I have over 30 years of educational experience working both in the classroom, in a Reading lab and individually with students for both reinforcement and skill enrichment.
Getting to know a student's needs, interests and what motivates him is what makes tutoring so fulfilling. I love finding what motivates each learner and using that to drive our sessions together. Seeing the growth and watching a student's excitement as he realizes that he is able to easily do something today that was a challenge or struggle yesterday is what makes my day!
I have a Masters in Education with a specialization in Reading as well as a Reading Specialist Credential. I worked in a bilingual setting teaching both Spanish language and ESL for 10 years. I have developed curriculum in both English, Spanish and ESL. I have done teacher training in intervention and English language teaching and have tutored Reading and Vocabulary for preschool through High School.
My major in Spanish and Linguistics along with my Bilingual Teaching Credential gives me the skills to teach Spanish language and writing. I taught at the highest elementary levels of Spanish Reading and can work at any level.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working for companies training teachers in the use of Common Core standards. I helped created the Smarter Balanced Digital Library of resources supporting Common Core. This required detailed analysis of the articles to identify which standards are being addressed in the articles. I have identified standards connected to lessons based on CCSS.
I was a classroom teacher in k-6 for 8 years. I was a Resource teacher for 3 years supporting students in k-6 elementary classes. I ran an elementary school Reading Lab and also did pull out differentiation and enrichment in an elementary school for 7 years.
I have a reading specialist credential and have taught elementary reading for many years. I ran a reading lab helping students with different phonic methods. I have tutored beginning readers using phonics. My masters degree has a specialization in Reading.
