About Judith

My lessons involve all facets of music, from theory and ear training, to performance and technique. But most importantly, I provide my students the highest quality piano instruction possible. It is my desire to see all my students excel in their piano playing & musical abilities and to develop the music within them.

I'm a well-rounded musician with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Transylvania University of Lexington, KY (Studio Art and Classical Voice). I also studied at Los Angeles City College, Musicians Institute, Camino College, Santa Monica College (Commercial Voice, Piano, Guitar and Music Theory), Musicians Institute of Los Angeles (Bass Performance) and CA State University Dominguez Hills (Voice). I plan to get my Master of Arts degree in Music within the next couple of years.

My teaching background consists of 10 years as an Independent Contractor, 5 years teaching recorder classroom and general music to elementary school children in the Inglewood, Lynwood, and Los Angeles school districts through Just Lovin' Music Studios, Inc. (JLMS). I currently serve at JLMS Studio as Program Developer, Coordinator, and I teach Group Keyboard for Beginners grades 3-7. I developed the Recorder Fusion Youth Ensemble program for grades 3-8 at Frederick K.C. Price Christian Schools of Los Angeles (2014-2015) and I currently teach beginning piano and music theory as a substitute teacher at SESA Saturday Music Conservatory of Los Angeles (2007 to present). From time to time I tutor undergraduate music students and members in my church choir in music theory, musicianship, and ear training.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

I studied ear training in college as a requirement for my degree in Music (B.A.) and beyond. Ear training is taught with every music program that I do with children (recorder, beginning & intermediate piano) and with adults (college students I coach). My ear training enables me to be able to write and arrange music for the programs I teach (i.e. I create arrangements to songs that my students perform). Lastly, when I hear the chords that are being played, I know the scale they come from, therefore I know what pitches to sing.

Piano

I currently teach group keyboard to children in grades 3-7. I've had private piano students in the past, both youth and adult, and I have been teaching piano to children for the past 10 years at SESA Conservatory for kids. I also play piano on occasion.

Sight Singing

I have a college degree (B.A. Music) in voice. I teach sight-reading to children and I sing in a choir that reads music. From time to time I'm hired to sing in choral events that require sight-readers.

Voice (Music)

I have a B.A. degree in Music (Classical Voice). I have taught voice and vocal health to children, and I'm an excellent sight-reader.
