I am a native speaker of Brazilian Portuguese and have been living in Los Angeles for 19 years. For my B.A., I double-majored in English and Portuguese, which included a licence to teach. After I finished my B.A., I was a high school teacher for a year. Besides, I acted as a Portuguese teaching assistant at UCLA while working towards my Master's degree. The classes I taught were either for students who only spoke English or for Spanish-English bilingual ones.
After obtaining my Master's, I tutored for three years. Currently, I work mostly as a translator, but I would now like to have a few tutoring students again, as I miss that aspect of my professional life. Tutoring brings a different sort of personal satisfaction, such as witnessing students' growth and knowledge acquisition and, in the process, realize that as the instructor I do some growing as well.
As a Portuguese tutor, I keep my lessons interesting by asking my students to give me a list of interest topics beforehand, trying to include those topics in my lessons as much as possible. I also try to use English as little as possible, making the class context as full immersion-like as possible. Also, I bring a variety of cultural elements into the lessons, including music and the learning of lyrics.
As an English tutor, I can help students understand grammatical notions that will help them write better, as well as help them with the acquisition of new vocabulary through reading. Additionally, I can proofread papers for those who don't feel the need of English tutoring. I have used English as a second language for over 20 years now in all of its aspects: speaking, reading and writing.
As a Microsoft Windows tutor, I can help students understand and master that operational system and many Windows applications pretty quickly, such as photo editing programs and email programs just to mention a few.
Please don't hesitate to contact me for additional information. I can surely help you with your endeavors. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been using Microsoft Windows since 1989.
I master this operational system so well that friends often call me to help them with their doubts about it.
Two of my personal computers run different versions of that OS. One runs Windows XP, while the other runs Windows 7. The reason why I kept my Windows XP PC is that I know that Windows XP has remained very popular among Microsoft Windows users, and I don't want to forget the details of that version of the OS.
