About Edward

The subjects that students typically struggle with are math, statistics, physics, and standardized testing. These subjects can be rather difficult because they don't know how to use their critical thinking skills. As a tutor with extensive knowledge, background, and experience with these subjects, I can breakdown all these difficult concepts into very easy-to-understand topics.

I earned a B.S. in Neuroscience from UCLA and tutored at the UCLA AAP Program. For the past 8 years, I have been tutoring students in a variety of subjects (K-12 and college). I have also prepared high school students for the SAT and ACT, and have also taught physics and math at both the high school and college levels. I received a 98% score on the SAT and a scored of 5/5 on the following AP tests: Calculus AB and BC, Physics 1, 2, and C. Moreover, I have tutoring partners who specialize in English, History, Biology, & Chemistry (K-12).

My tutoring experience involves 8 solid years of tutoring both for tutoring companies and privately. Also, I have tutored one-on-one in various academic subjects at companies such as Devon Review, Elite Prep, and the UCLA AAP Program.

I also have experience tutoring ADHD students as well.

Subjects I specialize in:

- All Math levels (including Calculus AB/BC)
- Physics

As for me, I am an easygoing, easy-to-work-with person who loves to go swimming, spends lots of time with friends and family, and LOVES both listening and playing music! I also exercise regularly and oddly loves organizing my apartment frequently.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is the most basic but also one the most essential aspects of all math subjects. It is critical to know and requires a lot of basic fundamental teaching. I am capable of teaching this essential math so that students can truly learn these problems, so that they don't struggle later on. I am proficient in math subjects and Algebra is one subject I am very experienced in teaching.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is one of my favorite and strongest subjects to teach. Algebra 2 is applying the basic math and taking it just a step further. I have been tutoring Algebra 2 for all 7 years and have taken multiple courses on Algebra 2.

Calculus is one of my favorite and strongest subjects to teach. I have received a 5 on both AP Calculus AB and BC, have taken Calculus courses in college, and have extensive experience teaching calculus to my private students. Unlike the previous math levels, Calculus is one of the student's first experience with college-level subjects and can be truly challenging for the unprepared.

Here I teach concepts, focus on the most fundamental aspects as they serve as the building blocks for the rest of the course, and help students on what they don't understand. I teach Calculus so that it is simple, not to say that it is easy, but because of the complexity of the subject, it helps students learn when it is presented in a simple form.

Many of my students loathe Geometry, and for good reason, there are so many proofs that students really hate. However, because I have been teaching Geometry for 7 years and become one of my most beloved subjects, I make students love this hated topic. I make proofs easy and fun, help them learn the fundamentals of Geometry, and establish an incredible basis for the future math levels.

Music Production

I have been producing electronic dance music for a good number of years and have amassed a good following on YouTube (1+ million views) and Facebook (10k+ followers). I have taught several students and got them started with producing. I also have all the necessary software to get you started. My main DAW is Ableton Live.

I love Physics and hence, is one of my strongest subjects I teach. I have received a 5 on AP Physics B (or 1&2), completed Physics classes in college at UCLA, taught Physics to college students in the UCLA AAP Program, and have extensive experience teaching students privately. Physics is about understanding concepts, learning formulas, and applying those ideas to problems.

A huge thing that I teach for Physics is to have the student draw out and visualize for themselves the problems. This is essential as once they are able to visualize what is going on, they can easily understand the problem themselves.

Message me and I will help make Physics easy for you!

Precalculus is one of those subjects that is a bit difficult at times, easy at other times, and can be downright confusing. I love teaching Precalculus because it involves a few subjects that are kind of all over the place but, once organized, it is really not that bad.

I have taught Precalculus to many of my private students, who at first hated the subjects, but now love it because they are able to master it. I provide formula sheets that make Precalculus really easy along with teaching concepts that the students can really use.

Message me so I can help your student master Precalculus!

SAT Math

SAT Math is one of my specialties. I scored an 800 on my exam as well as SAT Math II and have taught SAT Math to many students. I teach students the basic knowledge needed for math, while helping students in their weaknesses. My main focus is teaching students how SAT Math differs from their typical math class and focusing on how to approach the tricky math questions that SAT Math offers.

SAT Reading

After having improved my own SAT Reading score by 300 points when I took the SATs, I have a firm grasp on how SAT presents reading material and how to understand the passage on a deeper level. SAT Reading is about understanding the intentions of the authors of the passages and fully understand what is being implied in the passage and not inferring things that are too far reaching. I teach students the SATs to make sure they fully understand the passage better and, hence, understanding the answers to the questions.

SAT Writing

SAT Writing is more about knowledge of grammar than learning an easy trick or solution to the problem. I hate to teach just straight knowledge and memorization but in the case of SAT Writing, unlike the Reading and Math section, this is one of those cases where knowledge of grammar is required than any deeper understanding of concepts. Here I teach all the topics required of the SAT Writing section. With a rich experience of previous tutoring in SAT Writing, I am capable of helping students in whatever they are struggling.

Given that I mastered Calculus and all the preceding math levels, I have a fundamental understanding of Trigonometry as this subject is crucial. I teach the essentials and the basics for this topic. With 7 years of tutoring math, I can make Trigonometry fun and easy for students.
