Jon, a native of Cape Elizabeth, ME, started playing the drums at the young age of three. His musical taste was heavily influenced by his three older brothers and grew up listening to Tower of Power, Huey Lewis, Chicago, and other bands from that genre. By age six, he was taking drum lessons and playing in a band with his brothers. Throughout grade school, he took lessons and played in various school bands, winning awards for excellence. He then went off to study at Boston University, where he earned a degree in music education. While he was there, he played in a wide variety of bands including the big band, marching band, wind symphony, gospel choir, and many others. These groups gave Jon the opportunity to play at venues such as Symphony Hall in Boston, Madison Square Garden, and TD Banknorth garden, to name a few. Jon then decided to continue his education at the Berklee college of music, where he studied drum set performance with teachers including Tony "Thunder" Smith, Dave Dicenso, Mike Mangini, Larry Finn, and many more.
As a drummer, Jon is versatile and can play Funk, Rock, Jazz, Latin, Country, and practically any genre in between. While drumming, Jon has had the opportunity to play in several bands. He is currently providing driving beats for one of the premier wedding bands in Boston, as well as playing in various jazz groups and cover bands around the New England area. In addition, Jon has had the opportunity to play with such names as talented jazz Accordionist, Victor Prieto, and the amazing Sandra Bernhard.
Jon’s teaching goals include building a whole musician, not just a drummer. His students learn to read music and think melodically, not just rhythmically. His students are also taught to be very versatile musicians and will learn a wide variety of playing styles and genres. Most importantly, his students have fun playing music and playing the drums while learning to express themselves musically.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my degree in music education from Boston University and am an alumnus of the Berklee College of Music, where I studied drum set performance. I have also been playing the drums for 23 years and have been teaching them for 10 years. My teaching style is high-energy and I use a mixture of technology, method books, and recorded music to teach my students. My students also learn song form and music theory in order to become musicians, not just drummers.
