University of Southern California (Acting)
My mission is simple: to help your son or daughter begin to succeed in subjects they struggle with. As a daughter of two psychiatrist parents, I've learned a great deal about how to communicate well with young(er) children. My parents drilled into me the importance of school and how it was the single most influential tool for a better life. However, at a young age, I remember asking my parents for a math tutor, as I was quick to lose interest in subjects that were deemed more difficult for me. With the help of an amazing tutor, I began to use ways she taught me, to help apply them in school and especially in math. I have taken tutoring to the next level! Once hired, I use my intuition and knowledge (having been a nanny for over 13 years) to dissect what your son/daughter's strengths are. Are they more visual? Descriptive? Instead of telling the child what they need help in, I take what they can already do and help them to apply it to more difficult subjects, whether that be math or English, social studies or reading. I have found giving the child the ability to see what they are good (and sometimes excel) at helps for them to find the confidence, which, in turn, they will be taught how to bring in that sense of confidence into the more difficult classes or homework assignments. I am a lot of fun, and at the same time have a lot of patience, too. In college, I was able to tutor many athletes who had not had the good fortune of having attended some of the best schools in the country, and while tutoring them, I quickly became accustomed to working with people who were not as enthusiastic about their education as I had been as a young child. However, none of the athletes I tutored received lower than a B after working with me.
I am also a wonderful drama teacher, as I have been teaching children younger than I since I was 15 years old, when I started a drama club at my elementary through junior high school (which still exists over 14 years later). I can help your son/daughter become comfortable at auditions for the big conservatory program, or something bigger if it's something they're interested in pursuing. I have been a working actress in Hollywood for close to 8 years, and before that I was working in theater in Boston, MA. Having been to, and accepted into, top conservatories, I know what the pressure can feel like. My job here is to find out who your little actor/actress is and help grow that into a full rounded audition.
Tutoring and teaching has been an incredible pastime of mine for the last 14 years and I would love the opportunity to help your child! Thank you for your consideration! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a working theater actress since I was four years old. At the age of 15, I began a drama club for 4th and 5th graders, where we would play a bunch of improv games and then end up writing a show in which everyone in the club performed in front of the entire school. Ever since then, I have helped to mentor and work with people of all ages, by aiding them in auditions or just working monologues or scenes with them. My goal with your son or daughter, or even with you, is to find the root of who they are as a person and help them to incorporate that into each scene/monologue/audition they come across. With my experience of not only working in the industry, but also mentoring in theater for 13 years, I can guarantee the work we do will help you get the role you've always wanted!
