My name is Susan and I have a BA in sociology and a Master's in social work. I am interested in becoming a tutor because I believe in the power of help and assistance to be successful in high school and college. I utilized all the tutoring services in college which had a profound impact on how well I did. I am very patient and creative and I enjoy working with all age groups. I can tutor in English, Spanish, sociology, psychology, biology, history and many more. I can help with writing papers and thesis preparation.
I have a strong background in the field of tutoring. I tutored K-6 in the subjects of math, science, English and reading when I was employed for 4 years at Wildwood Elementary school. I have experience tutoring at the college level and teaching. I have about 1 year of high school tutoring for Spanish.
As a case manager at Taller San Jose, a non - profit vocational training school, tutored in the areas of writing comprehension, basic math, Algebra, and I taught the math class for the medical assisting program for one year.
My method of tutoring is meet the student where the are at, create a schedule, provide support, at develop creative and fun methods to learning. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BA in sociology from Whittier College and a MA in social work from California State University, Long Beach. I taught social sciences at my previous job as a case manager at a vocational training school.
