About Yvonne

I am a graduate of Azusa Pacific University with degrees in Music and Music & Worship with emphasis in voice. I have studied under great teachers such as Christine Park, Lori Ann Piscioneri, Christine Gangaro, Wes Abbott, Diana Tash, and Patricia Edwards. I also have experience performing in various genres as Classical, Jazz, pop, contemporary, and church music.

In my lessons, I specifically strive to develop a unique plan unique for each student to ensure that needs and interests are being acknowledged so the student is getting the most out of each lesson that he or she can. My lessons will focus on achieving your goals. If you want to master your instrument in general, we will focus on theoretical concepts and technique. If you are simply trying to pass a test in school on one of my subjects or prepare for a performance, I will help you to do that as well. Regardless of your learning goals, I will strive to make my lessons entertaining as well as informative, and together we will make rapid progress if you're willing to put in some work! My primary concerns as a teacher are that each student is being heard, is seeing consistent progress, and is enjoying the process of learning and creating music.

Please feel free to inquire with any questions or concerns! Your lessons with me will be fun as well as informative, and if you are willing to put in the work I can guarantee you will make progress as my student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary students in several tutoring programs. I know that a high level of patience is required along with compassion, knowledge, and dedication. A child has a short attention span and requires a lot engagement in learning. To deal with this, I show interest in what the child is working on and keep them involved and engaged with hands-on and visual activities. My goal is to uplift and motivate the student.

Music Theory

I took four years of Music Theory courses at Azusa Pacific University as a Music Major. I've been playing and studying music in one form or another for 14 years now, and I passed the approval test on this website with 100% of my answers correct. Most importantly, I'm an accomplished educator, composer, arranger, and analyzer in the field of music, and am very qualified to tutor/teach in this field.

Piano

I have been playing piano for 10 years and have reached a fairly advanced level. I could teach students beginner and intermediate students without any problems. I was a Music major at Azusa Pacific University, and as such I had to take several semesters of piano classes and pass a proficiency test in order to graduate. Previous to my experience at Azusa Pacific, I was instructed on piano since my junior year in high school, so I am well qualified to teach young piano students.

Sight Singing

As a graduate of Azusa Pacific University I have passed multiple courses and assessments based on Solfege, as well as had the chance to apply these skills in improvisation. I was a Music major at Azusa Pacific, and had the opportunity to tutor my classmates in the subject of Sight Singing. Previous to Azusa Pacific I was an officer at a music conservatory, and I taught ear training exercises and sight singing exercises to students. My educational background and teaching/tutoring experience in the field of Sight Singing makes me very qualified to pass on this skill to others.

Spanish

I have taken Spanish 1, and AP Spanish 2 in high school. I am a fluent Spanish speaker. I communicate efficiently and accurately in Spanish and have knowledge of the spelling, structure, and punctuation attributes of written Spanish, and am able to break down specific grammatical rules.

Voice (Music)

I received my Bachelor's in music with emphasis in voice. I have been an active performer from a young age and consequently have a wide range of experience singing in concerts, special events, recording jobs, in churches etc. I have been teaching voice lessons for 3 years both in my own private studio and in music schools to students ranging 10-60 years old.
