For several years now, I have been teaching both privately and in schools. My dual masters degrees are in vocal performance and choral conducting. I am a certified music teacher in the State of California and a C2-Mastery level Italian speaker, certified by the European Commission. This means that I've been through a lot of school! More importantly, it means I'm ready to help you succeed!
VOICE: I hold two degrees in vocal performance, including from the world-renowned University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Ever since my undergraduate studies, I have taught in styles ranging from classical to Broadway to contemporary. I have also performed regularly as a professional soloist and chorister. Vocal technique is something I am especially good at. As a singer nyself, I know what technique is like from the singer's perspective. I also follow the latest research, so I'm ready to help you find a healthy, balanced approach, and one that works best for you!
THEORY and COMPOSITION: Music theory and composition is one of my favorite things! It's amazing to learn how music "ticks," and I have specialized skills in counterpoint, voice leading, composition, and orchestration. I have come to L.A. to focus more on my composing, so whether you're just starting to "crack the code" with music theory or you need more advanced help, I want to help you meet your goals.
ITALIAN: Buongiorno! Italian is a strong part of my family heritage, and I have lived and worked in Italy many times. It is an amazing place, and whether you are looking to go there as a tourist or to delve more deeply into the Italian language, I can help. I have already taught Italian for several years, including four years at the University of Arizona. (Italian-hand gesturing is included!) Yo hablo español, so I am also ready to help Spanish speakers who are learning Italian.
Besides music and languages (I speak several others besides Italian), I love the sun, the outdoors, running and fitness, and the beach. I like movies, theatre, and storytelling. Friendship is also something that makes life grand, so I aim to strike a good rapport with anyone I work with. It just makes everything easier!
If you see there's something I can help you with, I look forward to meeting you and working with you. Thanks! For several years now, I have been teaching both privately and in schools. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Since I was young, Italian has been a valued part of my heritage. Italy is virtually my second home, and I have lived, studied, and worked there regularly since my early 20s. For 4 years, I taught hundreds of amazing Italian students at the University of Arizona. I have a C2 CEFR certification from the Council of Europe, which is "mastery" level and the highest level of certification possible in a European language.
