With a background in commercial art & graphic design, where my years were spent very successfully developing and creating entire movie campaigns for the entertainment industry, from concept to finish, including posters, video packaging and billboards, as well as international film festival branding, logos, identity and trademarks, allowing me to exceed the high goals I set for myself while in art school at both Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and UCLA.
I've now spent the last 7 years teaching the formal disciplines of Fine Art at a private art school that includes charcoal drawing, pastel, watercolor, sketching, oil painting, color theory and art history. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After 20 yrs as a commercial Graphic Designer, I redirected my focus to fine art and have been teaching the disciplines of drawing, watercolor, charcoal, tones/values, and oil painting mediums to children aged 5 - 18 for the last nine years. The first seven, working for a school of fine art, and the last two as a private art teacher.
In both watercolor and oil mediums, I teach my students color theory, mixing techniques, maintaining their materials, and an ability to perceive then express their perceptions on canvas and watercolor blocks accurately and realistically. I do not work in acrylic, only oil and watercolor.
