About Lee

I am a writer with a passion for language and teaching. My students have commented positively on my sense of humor, kindness and ability to make complex material come across as easy.

After studying education and practicing teaching over the course of the past three years, I feel comfortable and happy with students. This past summer, I taught ESL at the prestigious English Language Center. In 2011, I student-taught AP and honors classes in Hamilton High School’s Humanities Magnet, which was then LAUSD’s best academic program. This has made me strong and confident with a range of high school students. Teaching a postgraduate course at the downtown non-profit The Public School in 2011 made me familiar with college-aged students. I additionally taught a college-level, discussion-based course at Hampshire College in 2013.

I concentrated in English at Hampshire college, graduated with honors and wrote a novel for my thesis. I took workshops in the MFA program at UMass Amherst while still an undergraduate student. I worked personally with the director of UMass Amherst's MFA Program for Poet's and writers, Noy Holland. This is the fourth best MFA program for poetry nationally.

I additionally took writing classes at UCLA Extension for a total of seven quarters. My studies ensures a strong grasp of grammar and passion for the English language. Studying improvisational comedy over the course of the past 10 years makes for dynamic and engaging classes.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Religion

I studied philosophy with an emphasis on spirituality while in college. I additionally was a "peer meditation facilitator." I taught students on campus how to meditate, and lead a weekly meditation. I feel comfortable and passionate on this subject.
