About Oscar

I tutor students from most colleges; Los Angeles city college, east Los Angeles college, Pasadena city college, CSULA, UCLA, USC, and many more.

I have completed a Master of Science in Civil Engineering at California State University. The curriculum I completed for both undergraduate and graduate offered comprehensive high-level math, Engineering courses, physics, chemistry, and general education in various subjects (politics, art, anthropology, theater, etc.) I have always been motivated by helping others achieve their academic goals.

All students have the potential to get to the highest level in any subject. What differentiates good students from the average is the constant analysis and evolution of their approach to solving complex problems. I've been tutoring for more than 10 years and helped students in multiple areas of study. These include chemistry, math, physics, math placement preparation, biology, scientific lab writing, Microsoft office suite, SAT, GRE, and more. I've found that some of them were not using their time efficiently. My case-specific recommendations have helped them do better in all their classes.

Math and science classes cannot be taught as other subjects (art, music, history) because only practice will yield the desired results. For that reason, it is better to solve problems on blackboards and develop the right approach. Once the student has grasped and absorbed the lesson, he/she can finally solve any homework problem and do well in exams or finals.

Best wishes.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have seen algebra in high school and even in college. I have mastered the topics included in algebra because those foundations were fundamental to my degree in engineering. I am able to picture basic equations in my mind without graphing them on an electronic device or solving them on paper, once I see a word problem I am able to translate it into an equation that can be solved using algebra. Of course I have gone beyond to taking calculus, advanced calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and other advanced courses but I couldn't have done all this without knowing the basics in algebra.

CBEST

I took the CBEST a few years ago as I wanted to be a teacher for LAUSD. I took it and received a score of 76 in READING, 78 in MATH, and 75 in WRITING. My background in engineering allows me to know all math sections of this examination (algebra, geometry, logic and statistics) I have helped more than 30 people score better on the CBEST. Contact me to schedule your first session.

Civil Engineering

I major in civil engineering. I am currently a senior in civil engineering and have covered most of the study curriculum. I am prepared to tutor in statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. I've been tutoring for more than 3 years and helped students in multiple areas of study.

Differential Equations

I tutor differential equations at least 5 times a year to local different university students, I help usually USC, UCLA, and CSULA students. I have taken all the calculus required to take a differential equations class. I have gotten an A grade in differential equations, I have also used differential equations in most of my engineering classes, it helped me a lot in the derivation of energy equations in hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, circuit analysis, thermodynamics and many others.

Linear Algebra

My field requires linear algebra, differential equations, chemistry, calculus, physics as requirements to initiate engineering courses. I have taken linear algebra as an undergraduate student. These are classes I have already taken in the past.
