Hi! I'm Adam. I like writing, editing and the nitpicky details of predicates and comma splices.
I cut my teeth on newspapers and academia. As the Arts Editor for my school paper, I mentored and edited my peers' articles for clarity. I ended up teaching grammar and creative writing to them and found it rewarding to see their writing improve and flower. I went on to be an Editorial Intern for The Signal Tribune. Reading, writing and editing should be fun. I hope to bring out that in others.
I like to befriend my students and ensure they feel comfortable. I think it's important to not talk down to the student, but make them feel like an equal partner in the learning process. This makes learning become something they do for themselves, which I merely facilitate. I would love to help students discover their passion for a subject. I also love, love, love filmmaking and screenwriting and have had a lot of experience there, if by chance you need video production help or just want to chat movies. I'll throw in a few filmmaking tips now and then free of charge.
I can also help with standardized testing, which is a different beast than general writing and reading skills. I earned a 750 in the Reading section (the 98th percentile) and a 700 in the Writing section (the 96th percentile). Standardized tests are crazy things, but I'll lead your student through their tricks (and they do pull tricks) and how to think through their questions.
Feel free to ask me any questions you want--or recommendations for graphic novels. Hi! I'm Adam. I like writing, editing and the nitpicky details of predicates and comma splices.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I majored in Film and have made extensive films, both student and non-student. My two most recent films--I was writer and director--found their way into some film festivals. My campus job required teaching editing software to my peers and faculty members. Given that they were student films, I trained some underclassmen in focus pulling and camera operation to receive their help on set.
My campus job required helping students and faculty with miscellaneous Mac issues and troubleshooting. I've also been a lifelong user of Macs.
I earned a 750 on SAT Reading (98th percentile).
I have extensive experience on film sets, both student and non-student. I wrote and directed three short films--two of which did well at festivals--and supervised their entire production, which necessitated a small, low-budget crew. At school, I've DP'd both a narrative and documentary project and played PA and gaffer.
