I love to educate and help people move forward. That's my primary job as the Dean of Student Affairs in my middle school that I work at. I would love to be able to help more people through offering tutoring services.
What I am able to offer is comprehensiveness because I understand the education system in the States and know the formula for whatever goal you have in mind for yourself or your child. Your child will not only excel in the subject that I am tutoring in, but will be guided through the steps to success in higher education and beyond. I am multilingual with proficiency in Korean and Spanish. I can cater to the different needs of different students because I understand that every child has different learning styles.
I believe that building trust and building a relationship is key to success in tutoring and educating. We cannot just simply hope that we can pour in information into the brain and hope that it sticks. Teaching is not just about how much information is retained. It's about development of the brain and developing skills that will help you move forward in life.
Am I saying that you don't need high grades and good SAT scores?? Of course, not! To get to where you want to be you do need to jump through some hoops and learn to play the game. I will provide both foundation and practical skills to be successful in both your academic career and your life.
I have teaching experience in Math, English, Writing and Spanish. I am confident in any of the other subjects that I've listed. I went to a top-tier Ivy League university because I knew what they were looking for. I have worked with students from all ages for college preparation and beyond. I hope to be able to meet you in person and discover what we can achieve together. I love to educate and help people move forward. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I work with students in RTI (response to intervention) classes specific for math in my middle school. I work with low-level students to bring up their math skills and grades. I am very confident in algebra.
I have extensive experience working with youth and am qualified to work with K-6 as well. I currently work at a middle school that's 6-8. I have tutored students in elementary in the past (4 clients of mine were elementary students). I have background knowledge in education in general and can help support behaviorally as well.
I am very imaginative in making math connect with the real world for children. I will use different scenarios and physical objects to make math come alive. I am confident in my math skills to be a tutor in this subject.
I learned my English being in an ESL class. I also taught Spanish as a Second Language, so I understand the concepts of acquiring a language. I took linguistic courses as well in college, and I work with middle school students everyday.
My native language is Korean. I can teach basic reading and writing skills in Korean and can definitely help with improving conversational Korean. I work with Korean families everyday at my school and do translation work for Korean within my school setting. I am fluent in Korean.
I have received training to teach 6th/7th grade math because I am a support specialist at my middle school.
I am a credentialed teacher with a single subject in Spanish. Spanish was one of my majors in undergrad, and I lived abroad in Argentina for five months. I work with Hispanic students and parents everyday.
Part of my job is to make sure that students are passing their classes and managing their time properly. My method includes how parents (or other adults) can be involved to keep the student accountable. I always connect it to short-term or long-term goals so the students are working toward something.
Being a teacher at a middle school also means that I am equipped to tutor in all core classes: Math, Science, History, and English. Organization and time management will also be a focus in my teaching.
