About Gabriel

No matter how tough you think your class, test, or college application might be, I can teach you methods to simplify any problem into a more manageable, less stressful challenge. My approach is relaxed, patient, but always strategic. I take things slowly with my students so that they will understand why a particular solution works and how to apply it to new problems. I particularly empathize with students who struggle with test anxiety.

Raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, I scored in the 99th+ percentile on the SAT and ACT exams and received top scores on 12 AP exams. I graduated from Harvard University in 2014 magna cum laude in English. There, I was selected to write a creative thesis in playwriting, and I continue to see my plays performed at small theaters around the country. I was also politically active: I taught a weekly civics class to middle school students, ran a successful campaign for state representative, and volunteered for other statewide races. Currently, I lead post-production on a documentary web series, and I look forward to a life creating socially conscious films and plays.

In addition to the SAT, ACT, and ISEE, my AP & academic subjects include:
- Micro & Macro Economics
- English Language, Literature, Writing
- World, European, and US History
- Biology
- Art History
- Government & Politics

I also coach students on preparing their college applications, including the all-important personal statement. As a senior in high school, I was accepted to Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Dartmouth, Brown, Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, UChicago, Duke, Georgetown, and UVA, so I can teach you a strategy that works!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I graduated Harvard University, class of 2014, 3.82 GPA. I was a contracted SAT/ACT tutor with Veritas Prep, Top Test Prep, and Varsity Tutors. I have experience tutoring middle and high school students.

American History

- significant coursework in European and world history, as well as American fiction, British poetry, Shakespeare
- received A's on the vast majority of my college essays
- won several major state awards for historical research and writing in high school

Biology

AP Biology (score of 5)
AP Calculus BC (score of 5)
College-level neurobiology (A grade)

Elementary (K-6th)

For several years, I have tutored fourth through sixth graders in all academic subjects, as well as study skills. I also taught a weekly civics class to fourth and fifth graders in Boston, Massachusetts. I have experience working with young students both one-on-one and in medium and large group settings.

ISEE

For about six months, I have been tutoring both the Middle and Upper level ISEE with Academic Achievers, a well respected company based in LA. My students have all earned the skills they needed for their desired private school admissions-- I use both the IvyGlobal and Success workbooks.

Political Science

Most of my undergraduate electives (class of 2014) were in the social sciences, including economics, political science, and history. I also taught a weekly civics class to fourth and fifth graders in the Boston area, for which I had to plan lessons and manage occasionally rowdy classrooms. I have worked for a half-dozen political campaigns, won major awards in high school for historical research and writing, and currently tutor students in other academic subjects and test preparation.

Spanish

- Semester abroad in Chile
- Currently living with a Spanish-speaking roommate, with whom I practice daily
- AP Spanish, advanced college-level Spanish courses

I currently tutor middle and high school students in study skills (as well as test preparation). Some of my students grapple with academic anxiety and significant organizational problems. I work as an independent contractor for several majoring tutoring companies, including Varsity Tutors, Veritas Prep, and Top Test Prep.

Video Production

I have significant post-production experience using Final Cut Pro, Premiere, After Effects, PluralEyes, and Audition as well as various common plugins: Neat Video, FilmConvert, Magic Bullet. I have worked as a DP and editor with Canon DSLRs for a documentary project in Israel and the West Bank, and I have also color-corrected several short films. I also have some sound design experience.
