Barnard College (Chemistry)
Stanford University (PhD)
Columbia University (Master's)
Hello! I am from New York City where I attended an all-girls private school for thirteen years. I began tutoring in ninth grade and have continued ever since. I love learning and I love explaining concepts that are commonly presented in such complicated ways.
I graduated from Columbia University as a Chemistry major and was admitted to MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Princeton, Northwestern, and Carnegie Mellon Universities for their PhD programs in Chemistry. I started the PhD program at Stanford University and have since decided to take a break and tutor because I realize my real joy is the interactive learning and teaching environment. Recently, I was admitted to the Chemical Engineering Master's Program at Columbia's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, which will allow me to focus more directly on teaching versus research in the PhD programs.
I really enjoy working with students in mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology and my aim is to make these confusing subjects make sense!
My other great passion lies in literature, words, and language. I originally intended to major in Classics and to that end I took several Latin courses as well as Ancient Greek at Columbia. I love the craft of writing and logic and therefore enjoy assisting with essays greatly.
Finally, I have tutored in standardized tests, as I learned some tricks and strategies to do well. I did receive 800's for both the SAT's and GRE's.
I look forward to meeting new students and helping making challenging subjects manageable! Hello! I am from New York City where I attended an all-girls private school for thirteen years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I scored an 800 in the SAT Math section and the GRE Math section.
In the PhD program at Stanford University, I specialized in Physical Chemistry which is mathematics-based.
I was accepted to the Chemical Engineering program this spring at Columbia University, which is highly mathematics-based.
I scored an 800 in the Mathematics section of the SAT.
I scored an 800 in the Mathematics section of the GRE.
I have tutored students preparing for the Calculus AP and for the Calculus I and II SAT II subject exam.
I was awarded two fellowships for outstanding Chemistry student at Columbia University.
I also received two awards from the American Chemical Society: one for Quantitative Analysis and one for Inorganic Chemistry.
I was awarded best Latin student of the year at my high school.
I placed third in the National Latin Exam competition.
I graduated from Columbia University as a Chemistry major and therefore was required to take Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II. I also took the introductory Organic Chemistry laboratory course, followed by an upper level Organic Chemistry laboratory course.
When applying to PhD programs in Chemistry I took the Chemistry GRE, in which has 30% of the test focuses on Organic Chemistry.
I have tutored Columbia college students in the Organic Chemistry courses for two years.
