So, if study is a constant source of problems for you, or you feel like you're just not good in a subject, be assured that as you understand certain basics, that all smooths out. I once had a student who just couldn't get through algebra. The parents were at their wit's end. I did a couple sessions and made this startling discovery - she was seeing minus signs as equal signs - she needed glasses! In 16 years, nobody had ever picked this up, not even the student! So that's how basic, basic can be.

My name is Dan, and the subjects I tutor include all levels of math through calculus, economics, statistics, physics, and accounting and investing basics. I can also tutor test prep, English vocabulary and composition. And as noted, I'm quite expert in rapidly debugging a student, clearing up the missed areas, and getting the student winning and moving again successfully through the material. I think a large part of my success is that I have over 30 years experience applying math and computer science to engineer systems in the real world, so I'm focused on rapidly getting the result wanted by the client.

As I do this essentially around the clock, I can always work out my schedule to the client's satisfaction, including nights and weekends. I also have worked all over Los Angeles County, from West LA to East LA all the way to Pasadena and Alhambra, and from Hollywood to Pacoima. I also successfully tutor using shared desktop software when convenient or in emergencies.

But I believe it's best to hear what my clients have to say, so I've included a reference below.

It would be great to hear from you.

Best,
Dan K.

-------------
"Dan and I started working together in mid October 2012. I came to him a week before a midterm with no knowledge of what was going to be on the test. Dan and I worked tirelessly that next week to try to get up to speed and at least earn a passing grade on the exam. Dan was not only concerned about me getting a good grade but he was also very concerned that I conceptualized the information. Dan truly cares about the well being of his students. There were numerous sessions throughout the semester where Dan worked with me until 2 or 3 AM. He is more concerned about the well being of his students than he is his own health or well being. Dan not only taught me the information for my class but he also taught me how to study. Prior to Dan, I had been cramming for midterms the week before they occurred hoping to pull off an A or B. Dan taught me how to teach myself the information by using the resources that were at my disposal, aka my book. Prior to Dan, I really did not know how to study and it showed in the material that I actually conceptualized and could repeat from past classes, which was not too much. Dan would be my first option for any kind of math/number based class. He reads the material ahead of time so you are not wasting your time during the session trying to figure out what is important and what is not. Using Dan makes sure that every dollar that you spend on him is well spent." Jason F.

Econometrics,

Econometrics

I have a math degree from UCSD, and have developed software for stock picking strategies that requires knowledge of not only price and volume patterns, but also the ability to understand company financials, and market dynamics. I have been tutoring economic courses for 4 years. In particular, I regularly tutor economics at USC, including econometrics.
Finance, Financial Accounting, Macroeconomics, Managerial Accounting, Microeconomics, Microsoft Excel

Computer

C,

C

I graduated from UCSD with a math degree. After graduation, I became a software engineer and developed a graphics system for air traffic controllers in system, and later used C and C++ in the development and maintenance of the popular defragmenter, Diskeeper. Also used C and C++ for my stock picking software development. I have a lot of experience programming, in particular in these two languages.
C++,

C++

I graduated from UCSD with a math degree. I had lots of early experience in C and then moved to C++ in the 1990s working for Executive Software on developing and maintaining the popular defragmenter, Diskeeper. I also used C++ to develop a stock picking strategy program that predicts rates of returns based on price, volume and insider transaction patterns.
Computer Programming,

Computer Programming

I graduated from UCSD with a math degree. In college, I took computer science courses as well. After graduation, I became a software engineer and have worked for 35 years in this field. I have built large aerospace systems, systems software, and stock strategies. I have significant experience as a programmer.
Computer Science,

Computer Science

I graduated from UCSD with a math degree but also took computer science courses as well. After graduation, I became a software engineer and have worked for 35 years in this field, specializing in graphics. My forte is computational algorithms, and I have tremendous expertise in debugging software. I have build large aerospace systems, systems software, and stock strategies using microcode, assembler, pascal, fortran, Ada and the C languages
Fortran,

Fortran

I have been a programmer for almost 40 years. I did a lot of aerospace work after college and much of this was scientific programming using Fortran.
Pascal,

Pascal

I graduated from UCSD with a math degree, graduating magna cum laude. Interestingly, the professor who developed Pascal was at UCSD, and was continuing it's development during my years there. Much of my coursework and a special project was written in Pascal.

Awesome, knowlegeable tutor

Dan really went above and beyond to help me pass my Advanced Epi and Bio statistics take home final. He explained difficult concepts I was struggling with and really helped me interpret the data in a way that made sense to me. Will definitely use him again for future tutoring sessions

Fantastic tutor!

Great tutor...knows his material and is reliable, patient and smart. He is the only tutor to use for statistics and math. If I could give 10 stars, I would.

Wonderful tutor, per my son!

My son is at college but reported back to me that Dan helped him immensely! He was extremely happy and is seeing him for additional sessions (as many as possible) prior to the microeconomics final!

Dan's knowledge of economics is amazing! Super helpful and great to work with

I needed help on my microeconomics course (mba level). We went through all of the problems that I needed help with and Dan was great at explaining each problem. Learned a lot and will definitely be working with Dan again in the near future

Patient and relatable tutor who created a spark

My son is singing "this is the best day of my life" after his session with Dan. "I get it now" with a huge smile came next. My son has been struggling this year and looking for someone to just sit down and take the time to go through the lessons with him. Dan did that and my son is so happy and relieved to have the resource he was looking for. If you want someone to teach and explain the process rather than just get the right answer, then Dan would be perfect for you. He has made a big difference for our son in just two hours. His spark is back!

Laurie, 4 lessons with Dan

Very knowledgeable and patient

Dan exceeded my expectations and accomplished a lot for a first lesson! My daughter understood his explanations very well and we would definitely use him again for future lessons!

Mary Elenor, 2 lessons with Dan

Super helpful, prepared, and knowledgeable

Dan was an exceptional tutor who spent the time to understand the material under question before the session began in order to make best use of our time together. He is patient when you don't grasp a concept and shows additional and alternative steps for understanding.
