My name is Michelle, and I have been teaching and tutoring a variety of subjects since 2005. I have taught MS Office products in a formal setting for a now defunct company in Santa Monica, CA. However, I have also been tutoring a variety of computer software programs with an emphasis on video editing informally for many years. Since I have been working as a video editor and web designer, I have real-world experience using programs like Adobe Creative Suite, Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro 7 & X. I have also solved computer problems online and offline for many years.
In addition to interest in video (Film/TV) and computers, I have a deep love of US History since the Civil War. I have corrected US History tests as a volunteer at a Los Angeles continuation high school. My BA is in Communications from UCLA with a 3.42 (I was in the honors program for most of my time at UCLA), and I have training as a journalist. I also have a lot of knowledge of math concepts through algebra and geometry. I have written and produced a variety of stories and editorials for written publications and radio. I’m excited about the opportunity to impart what I've learned to a variety of students young and old. It’s never too late to learn! I scheduled 2 hours of tutoring sessions and Michelle was able to instruct me and at the same time do a return demonstration on what she taught. I highly recommend her. She's very easy to understand and not intimidating at all. Thanks Michelle!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been using Macintosh computers since the Mac SE. I have used all OS X version through Mountain Lion. I have created a multi-boot Vista/Leopard/Snow Leopard/Lion computer on an Intel based laptop. I also have my own G4 mirror door system and I have installed a SCSI Card 2906, USB 2 card, and a new graphics card (ATI Radeon 9600) in order to use Motion. I also have a home wi-fi network, which has a wireless printer, my multi-boot laptop, an Apple TV, iPod Touch and an Android Samsung phone. I have worked for Vivendi/Universal as a technical support representative where I assisted many young callers with problems with their game and educational software on both Mac OS X and Windows.
I have been working with MS Windows from Windows 3.1 through Windows 8. I worked for Vivendi/Universal, Davidson & Associates, and Maxis Software testing and helping customers with their Windows software. When I would help a customer I had to know how to adjust settings in the Windows control panel and other advanced uses of Windows. I have an HP laptop where I had to partition the hard drive in order to create multiple OS booting including Vista and Windows 7.
I have a BA in Communications from UCLA. I have taken many film and TV courses both at UCLA as well as community colleges. The courses have been in film/TV development, production and post-production. At LACC I was put on the President’s Honors list for multiple semesters on the honor roll for the film/TV courses I completed. I have interned for Kathryn Bigelow’s First Light Company, where I read scripts and wrote coverage. I have worked as a PA and Second Assistant Camera on a variety of short films. I have worked as a video editor full-time from January 2006 through April 2008 and I have been working on a freelance basis since then. As a video editor I have used Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer and Premiere Pro. I also have experience doing sound design and creating motion graphics. My post production work can been seen upon request.
